Wheeler Wildcats Football 2010
Fall 2010
We are looking forward to another exciting year of Wildcat football; there is nothing better
than Friday nights at the football field! The coaches, players, and parents have been working
extremely hard this summer in hopes of putting together a successful season.
Last winter we were fortunate enough to hire Coach Mike Collins as our new head football
coach. From the first time we met, I knew he was the right man for Wheeler High School. Coach
Collins is hard working, knowledgeable, and knows how to win football games; perhaps his
biggest strength is his connection with the students. I am confident that he will bring a high
level of respect and success to the Wheeler Football Program.
The season is almost upon us; our first regular season football game is on Friday, August 27 at
Pope High School starting at 7:30 pm. Our first home game is the following Friday, September
3 at 7:30 pm. I encourage everyone to come out and support these hardworking young men as
they begin their journey.

“Proud” Principal of Wheeler High School

Wheeler Wildcats Football 2010
As the new Athletic Director of Wheeler High School, let me briefly introduce myself. I enter
my sixteenth year at Wheeler High School as a teacher, as a coach, as an administrator,
and as part of the Wheeler family. As a result, I have been fortunate enough to witness both
the success and failure of Wheeler football. We are all lucky to be a part of a program rich in
tradition, a “blue chip” program. While discussing Wheeler football with those in the county
who are experienced and possess the knowledge to discuss high school football, the recent
description of the Wheeler High School football program is as follows: “Wheeler is a sleeping
giant. Watch out when they finally wake from this slumber.”
• I challenge the Athletic Director to inspire those yearning for a return to Wheeler football
glory.
• I challenge Wheeler High School administration to commit the necessary resources to the
program.
• I challenge the coaching staff to change the culture of the football program.
• I challenge the players to strive for excellence; both on the field and in the classroom.
• I challenge our dedicated cheerleader/athletes to motivate our fans on Friday nights.
• I challenge our Booster Clubs to continue to work tirelessly to support our athletes.
• I challenge our student body to get out on Friday nights and support those who sweat and
bleed for them.
• I challenge our local businesses to continue to provide support financially to the program.
• I challenge our parents to continue to be a source of strength for all of us.
How will we know if these challenges have been met? The answer is simple. When I am asked
at this time next year to write for the program, examine the content, the tone, and the message
delivered.
