Fall 2010

Dear Wheeler Wildcat Community,

We are looking forward to another exciting year of Wildcat football; there is nothing better
than Friday nights at the football field! The coaches, players, and parents have been working
extremely hard this summer in hopes of putting together a successful season.

Last winter we were fortunate enough to hire Coach Mike Collins as our new head football
coach. From the first time we met, I knew he was the right man for Wheeler High School. Coach
Collins is hard working, knowledgeable, and knows how to win football games; perhaps his
biggest strength is his connection with the students. I am confident that he will bring a high
level of respect and success to the Wheeler Football Program.

The season is almost upon us; our first regular season football game is on Friday, August 27 at
Pope High School starting at 7:30 pm. Our first home game is the following Friday, September
3 at 7:30 pm. I encourage everyone to come out and support these hardworking young men as
they begin their journey.

Welcome From Our New Athletic Director

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year. The opening of school brings with it many challenges;
students must again train and challenge their bodies and minds to awake at an early hour,
teachers must embark on academic and professional challenges new to the upcoming school
year, parents are challenged in more ways than can be described in this brief format, and
our athletes are challenged to once again be able to run faster, hit harder, and maintain
academic excellence. This is no easy task. So our theme for the upcoming football campaign:
CHALLENGES.

As the new Athletic Director of Wheeler High School, let me briefly introduce myself. I enter
my sixteenth year at Wheeler High School as a teacher, as a coach, as an administrator,
and as part of the Wheeler family. As a result, I have been fortunate enough to witness both
the success and failure of Wheeler football. We are all lucky to be a part of a program rich in
tradition, a “blue chip” program. While discussing Wheeler football with those in the county
who are experienced and possess the knowledge to discuss high school football, the recent
description of the Wheeler High School football program is as follows: “Wheeler is a sleeping
giant. Watch out when they finally wake from this slumber.”

I will issue a series of challenges to all stakeholders of Wheeler football:

• I challenge the Athletic Director to inspire those yearning for a return to Wheeler football
glory.
• I challenge Wheeler High School administration to commit the necessary resources to the
program.
• I challenge the coaching staff to change the culture of the football program.
• I challenge the players to strive for excellence; both on the field and in the classroom.
• I challenge our dedicated cheerleader/athletes to motivate our fans on Friday nights.
• I challenge our Booster Clubs to continue to work tirelessly to support our athletes.
• I challenge our student body to get out on Friday nights and support those who sweat and
bleed for them.
• I challenge our local businesses to continue to provide support financially to the program.
• I challenge our parents to continue to be a source of strength for all of us.

How will we know if these challenges have been met? The answer is simple. When I am asked
at this time next year to write for the program, examine the content, the tone, and the message
delivered.

BEST OF LUCK TO THE BOYS AND GIRLS!

Mark Trachtenbroit

2010 Wildcat
Marching Band
Seniors
Amy Bishop
ACTIVITIES Marching Band & Leadership.
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: Going somewhere that has a band.
WHAT WILL BE MISSED MOST ABOUT WHEELER: I’ll miss the band room
and some of the teachers, mostly spending most if not all of my free time in
the band room.
SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT WHEELER: Besides all the memories through
band, all my friends and singing songs on the bus.
MESSAGE TO LIVE BY: Don’t hide in the silence; your voice has a sound, use
the music to guide you.
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: Trust the people who know what the hell
they are talking about. Even if you don’t like them as a person, the people who
have been around longer are smarter, so LISTEN to what they’re saying until you know your DIRECTION.

Wynn Dubuc
ACTIVITIES: Marching Band - What other activity is there?
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: Go to a university that will take my money and
teach me things of relative value.
WHAT WILL BE MISSED MOST ABOUT WHEELER: Using my vehicle as the
quartermastermobile.
SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT WHEELER: Watching freshmen mature into
healthy, kind,
and unstable young adults.
MESSAGE TO LIVE BY: Fences only delineate boundaries, they do not
protect them. Especially from cars.
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: “No matter what, don’t do anything to
anybody for any reason, ever.” (Quote from Michael Scott, “The Office”)

79
Wheeler Wildcats Football 2010

Wildcat Marching Band Seniors

Ethan Duke
ACTIVITIES: Video games, marching band & Airsoft.
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: Go to Southern Polytechnic State University
for Mechatronics.
WHAT WILL BE MISSED MOST ABOUT WHEELER: Seeing my friends daily.
SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT WHEELER: Being a part of band senior year.
MESSAGE TO LIVE BY: BE YOURSELF!
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: Enjoy what little time you have at Wheeler
because it’s a great school and you’re lucky to be here.

Conner Ellis
ACTIVITIES: Leadership Club, Helping Hands, National Honor Society, Mu
Alpha Theta.
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: Attend Georgia Tech then go have an
awesome life and open a rib shack on the beach with Will Moran and Andrea
Baker!
WHAT WILL BE MISSED MOST ABOUT WHEELER: Always having someone
cool to hang out with in the band room
SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT WHEELER: Going to all the Football games and
still having a great time despite so many tough games; and Basketball State
Champs!
MESSAGE TO LIVE BY: Never give up, always persevere.
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: Push through all of the work and do your best, enjoy the fun times while you
can because once you are a senior it feels like just yesterday was your first day at Wheeler.

Rasheed Hall
ACTIVITIES: Marching band.
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: Attend Ohio State University and become a
pilot.
SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT WHEELER: Hanging out on Fridays before
football games.
MESSAGE TO LIVE BY: Live the way you want to be remembered!
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: Don’t fall for the Pep Rally ticket scam.

80
Wheeler Wildcats Football 2010

Wildcat Marching Band Seniors

Kendall Hines
ACTIVITIES: Marching Band, Track & Field, Wheeler Activities Board.
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: I plan on going to either Duke or North
Carolina University and become a physical therapist for a professional
basketball team.
WHAT WILL BE MISSED MOST ABOUT WHEELER: Running around the
halls being lost during the first week of school. I will also miss seeing all my
friends that I’ve grown so close to over these past 4 years.
SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT WHEELER: Having to deal with my parents after
winning
biggest flirt/band bachelor/cutest couple with any girl I find three years a row.
MESSAGE TO LIVE BY: Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with
fools and watch your life fall to pieces. Proverbs 13:20 (MSG)
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: Don’t slack as an underclassmen. The grades you make as an underclassmen
will set the tone for the rest of your high school career. It’s much harder bringing up your GPA than keeping it high.

Sylvia Kiarie
ACTIVITIES: Marching band of course and very involved at my church.
PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: Go to college for 5 billion years, become a
doctor, get married and have a family. Found a hospital, open a restaurant,
travel the world; not necessarily in that order.
WHAT WILL BE MISSED MOST ABOUT WHEELER: I’ll miss the smelly locker
room and hot practices and definitely the camaraderie within the band mo
matter the grade level and being the only girl on the battery.
SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT WHEELER: Falling down the steps with my bass
drum in sophomore year on the way to the stadium for a home game.
MESSAGE TO LIVE BY: HAKUNA MATATA – means no worries for the rest of
your days, problem free philosophy.
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: When you know what you need to be doing to take care of business, do it so
that nobody has to tell you.

colors.

PLANS AFTER GRADUATION: Attend a doctorate program for physical
therapy.
WHAT WILL BE MISSED MOST ABOUT WHEELER: The amazing mix of
people.

one.
ADVICE FOR UNDERCLASSMEN: Relax, it’s only high school.
