• Area sealed with fencing and exclusion zones
set up.
• Air monitoring ongoing to reassure the public,
fire service and the demolition team that
asbestos exposure was not an issue.
• All incoming services confirmed as isolated and
of no risk to personnel.
• Press statement prepared.

• Second all parties meeting to confirm that area
was isolated and safe and that asbestos
monitoring at boundaries showed no asbestos
fibre release from the fire.
• Also confirmed actions required by Armac to
allow safe access into the buildings for the fire
brigade to allow them to put out the fire.

• Armac machines deployed to demolish sections
of the building to allow fire brigade to gain entry
safely and put out the fire.

• Fire extinguished with fire brigade in attendance
to damp down for next 24 hours to avoid fire
restarting.
• Armac machines continuing with demolition and
use of Dust Boss to constantly damp down
areas to prevent fire restarting.

• Lessons learned:-
1)Set up incident room asap.
2)Appoint incident commander immediately.
3)Brief all parties on an hourly basis
throughout the day.
4)Prepare a press statement early and stick
to it.
