A Business plan of developing and establishing the best product as against

plastic carry-bags
Mr. Sayantan Mitra1, Mr. Subhojit Biswas1

Abstract
The main idea of our business plan stems from the plight of the shopkeepers/retailers of Siliguri city from the
implementation by Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) of banning plastic carry bag usage in SMC area. The city
being an economic hub of North Bengal cannot effort the plight of the traders of being not providing the appropriate
carrying accessories to their valued customer. The non-availability has also caused the customers to suffer a lot while
traveling out of their home for shopping or back home after shopping. In such a situation paper bags are the best option;
they are conventional, eco-friendly and are also easily recyclable. When SMC banned plastic carry bags in the city it is
these paper-bags which became the best alternative for the shopkeepers/retailers. Nowadays, there are various types of
paper made bags available in the market. They are not only good looking, but also have ample space to carry goods and
are quite durable. These bags are designed to suit specific requirements which include shopping, carrying light-weight
stuffs etc. They are proving to be one of the good substitutes for polythene carriers in the current context. However,
there is a big hurdle for the very reason for which it started all over again. The main concern remains to the point that
the bulk production of paper-bags will cause a good deforestation as the main ingredient of paper-pulp comes from
cellulose that grows only with the natural vegetation. Our business idea has grown from this point and is definitely
going to provide a best alternative against the usage of plastic carry bag and thereby promoting local agricultural cash
crops. Our business plan is based on a project of developing an indigenous technique of a mixed fiber by combining
little amount of strong fiber (say cotton) and voluminous fiber (say jute). The proposed new fiber which is going to be
developed will definitely be strong, degradable and cost effective. Thus this can become a best alternative as against the
plastic carry bag (which is banned totally for its commercial usage) and paper bag (its rampant usage can cause
environmental problems like unauthorized deforestation). The B-plan project will definitely become an eye opener for
the future entrepreneurs to start something similar and innovative. In the B-plan the strong and weak points are
definitely going to be projected. This plan will further showcase the variables like investment sources, training and
development platform, growth propositions etc. There are many reasons to develop such kind of B-plan. Apart from the
profiteering objective the B-plan is definitely having the following supportive objectives. The can be summarized as
below:-

 Protect the interest of both end-users and jute growers by ensuring MSP to them.
 Development of the marketing infrastructure, establishment of market access and commercialization of the
benefit of jute products among the consumers for jute.
 Welfare of the jute growers.
 Up-gradation and expansion of human skills by way of creating large employment opportunities.
 Help to sustain bio-diversity in the region.
