Stress Engineer

Description of the job

The Serial Programmes Continuous Product Development (CPD) teams (Long Range and Single
Aisle) within the Wing & Pylon Centre of Eexpertise (CoE) - Engineering, require a Stress Engineer
to work on continuing product development activities which includes justifications/modifications of
existing wing structure.

Tasks

As the sucessful candidate you will be responsible for the analysis of metallic and some composite
aircraft structure using standard static stressing methods to develop design solutions and will
involve liaison with Fatigue & Damage Tolerance, Design and appropriate Airbus departments to
come up with optimum design solution.
You will carry out static stressing calculations to assess design solutions using standard hand and
computer methods as well as be expected to liase with the Methods and Data group in order to
ensure that methods, assumptions, data and procedures reflect on-going developments.
You will also be expected to support on-going local improvement initiatives to increase team
efficiency through methods and process improvements.

Your skills

As the successful candidate, you will need:


 Several years working as a Stress engineer, preferably in the aircraft industry, involved in static
analysis of metallic and composite structures using a broad range of standard hand and
computer
method is desired. Experience in Composite analysis is desirable but not mandatory for this role.
Appropriate training will be given where necessary;
 An understanding of the fundamental method of analysis for static stressing and an ability to
develop these methods would be expected;
 An ability to assess structural analysis problems;
 Some knowledge of the application of FE analysis and an understanding of aircraft production
methods and processes would be beneficial, including manufacture;
 Broad range of standard hand and computer stress analysis tools;
 A team player with a high regard for internal and external customers, whilst maintaining aircraft
integrity as the over-riding principle;
 An understanding of fatigue and damage tolerance;
 Good communication skills and a pro-active approach to problem solving;
 Experience of PC and mainframe computer systems would be expected.
