Agreement Chart

1.) Singular subjects have singular verbs.

2.) Plural subjects have plural verbs.

3.) Clauses do not impact the agreement rules.

4.) Compound subjects:


 Singular joined by or or nor have singular verbs

 Plural joined by or or nor have plural verbs

 MIXED singular and plural joined by or or nor use subject closest to verb
to dictate

 Subjects joined by and have plural verbs

*Exception: Everything starting with every or each is singular.

5.) Confusing subjects inverted subjects follow the same rules.

6.) Collective noun is singular when it acts as one unit.

Collect noun is plural when the units act differently.

7.) Plural looking but singular in meaning are singular.

8.) Singular Indefinite Pronouns are singular verbs and Plural Indefinite Pronouns take
plural verbs.

9.) Titles are always singular.

10.) Measurement usually singular.

11.) The pronouns all, any, more, most, none, and some usually take a singular verb if
antecedent is singular. If antecedent is plural, then take a plural verb.
