NEWPORT BEACH – Since day one of her campaign, Meg Whitman has been reaching out to
Latinos in ways that no other statewide Republican candidate has in decades. And her work is
paying off.

Just ask the more than 500 California Latinos whom Meg joined at a Newport Beach hotel Friday
night for the inaugural Hispanic 100 Lifetime Achievement Award Gala, which honors Latinos who
have made major contributions to American culture and business.

“Meg is the person we need right now more than ever especially for the Latinos because Latinos
are interested in economic upward mobility,” said Delores Chavez-Harmes of San Diego. “People
cannot wait to have Meg as the Governor. Meg Whitman has the work ethic, has the values that
Latinos have, has the business sense that Latinos value, and that’s why Latinos are behind Meg
Whitman right now.”

The crowd cheered on Meg, who told the audience she cannot win this election without their
support. The gala also featured special guests such as comedian Paul Rodriguez, who recently
endorsed Meg’s campaign, and singer and entertainer Vikki Carr, who told the crowd: “If you want
to get ahead, nobody gives it to you -- you have to fight for it. And so Meg -- I certainly am here to
fight for you.”

Meg told the crowd: “As I look around this room tonight, I see some amazing people who have
done some amazing things. You have been an inspiration to members of your community. But far
beyond that, you’ve been inspiration to Californians.”

She added: “I cannot win this election without the Latino vote. From the very beginning, I have
worked to include Latinos in this campaign. We want to hear from your community. I want to know
what’s on your mind. And I will make you one promise: because I have not been in politics for 40
years, I will go to Sacramento not owing anything to anybody except for the voters of California.”
