Keuka College Storm
2007 Men’s Soccer

DEFENSE STILL STORM’S STRONG POINT

With its top scorer and three of four starting defenders returning, the Storm should
contend for the NEAC crown in 2007. Keuka went 10-6 a year ago, 7-3 in the NEAC,
and recorded 9 shutouts.

Coach Matt Tantalo's team limited opponents to a 0.81 goals scored average last sea-
son. Leading the way was junior All-NEAC first team selection Justin Viele. Joining
Viele in the backfield are senior Sean Barker and junior Nate Studgeon (1-1-3), who
helped limit opposing offenses to just 13 goals in 16 games last season. Senior Adam
Capozzi and sophomore Branden Nicholson also return.

Returning to the net is sophomore sensation Mike Meskill, who was lights out in-
between the posts with 67 saves and an .837 save percentage. Meskill, who helped
Keuka to a No. 29 national ranking in shutout percentage, also set a Keuka College
single season record for shutouts (9).

As stellar as Keuka's “D” was, the Storm offense also

wrecked havoc on opponents. Junior forward
Brandon Scott returns after leading the Storm in
scoring for the second straight year with 8 goals, 2
assists, and 18 points. Scott, an All-NEAC second
team selection, will be helped by senior Ian Stevens,
who finished with 4 goals and 8 points. Stevens is
currently 9th all-time in school history with 17 goals.
Junior Mike Tempesta also returns after finishing
second on the team in
scoring with 10 points (4
goals and 2 assists).

Also coming back to help

Keuka's offense put the
ball in the back of the net
are senior Bobby Lee (2-3-
7), sophomores Kelin
Wheaton (3-1-7), Matt
Morgan (3-1-7), Ian Loos
(2-1-5), Tyler Shaw (1-2-4), junior Mark Lemieux (0-1-1), sen-
ior Josh Beyer, and sophomore Anthony Pitti.

Coaching Profiles
Head Coach Matt Tantalo
Matt Tantalo enters his third season as the coach of the Storm and has guided them to a 19-
12-1 record through his first two years. Last season, the Storm finished 10-6 overall and 7-3
in the NEAC. In 2005, Tantalo's first season with the club, Keuka earned a spot in the ECAC
Division III Upstate Soccer Tournament after posting a 9-6-1 mark.
Matt Tantalo
Tantalo also coaches the men's and women's tennis teams in the spring and led the men's
squad to a fourth place finish at the 2007 NEAC Tournament.

Tantalo came to Keuka from Syracuse University, where he served as assistant men's soccer
coach in 2004. As an assistant for the Orange, Tantalo was responsible for training, scout-
ing, recruiting, and game-day preparation.

Before SU, Tantalo was head coach at Elmira College from 2001-03. He led the Soaring
Eagles to an Empire 8 Conference Tournament semifinal appearance in 2002. While at
Elmira, Tantalo also served a two-year term as chair of the Empire 8 Men's Soccer
Committee, and was a member of the NCAA Regional Ranking Committee in 2003.

Before Elmira, Matt served as assistant men's soccer coach at Nazareth College under the
late Doug May from 1998-2001. While at Nazareth, Tantalo helped guide the Golden Flyers to
an ECAC Upstate Semifinal appearance in 1999, and an appearance in the ECAC Upstate
Championship game in 2000.

Tantalo was a standout soccer player at RIT, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree
in business administration and management in 1999. He started every game of his career in
helping the Tigers to an overall record of 39-19-7. Tantalo earned regional All-American hon-
ors in 1995, captained the Tigers in 1997, helped RIT reach the NCAA quarterfinals in 1994,
and win the ECAC Upstate Championship in 1995. Tantalo also participated in the Empire
State Games, earning a bronze medal in 1997.

Following his collegiate career, Tantalo played two years of professional soccer in the United
Soccer Leagues. He played for the Albany Alleycats (USL Pro League) in 1998 and for the
New York Capital District Shockers (USL Premier
Development League) in 1999.

An experienced camp clinician, Tantalo served as director

of the Advanced Players Camp in Rochester, N.Y., as well
as the co-director of the Elmira College Soccer Camp.

He has also been active as a clinician for the past 10 years

at numerous camps including Syracuse University, RIT, St.
Bonaventure University, University of Notre Dame, Siena
College, Cornell University, and Hobart College, among
others.

A native of Rochester, Tantalo is a 1994 graduate of Gates-

Chili High School, where he helped lead the Spartans to
back-to-back Section V Championships and national rank-
ings.
