Tutorial Lesson 3 – Complex Sketch

** Now that we know a little bit about Using Intent Manager, we will try a little bit more complex of a
sketch. The final sketch will look like the following image. **

FILE Menu: #File, #Open, <intent_2.prt>, #Open

INSERT Menu: #Revolve… or select .
Dashboard: Placement, Define…, [select FRONT Datum], #Sketch.

** Once in Sketcher, specify your references to the datum planes. **

** Begin your sketch by placing a horizontal centerline to revolve around **

SKETCH menu: #Line, #Centerline or select , [sketch horizontal CL along TOP Datum],
[Middle Mouse Button]

** The next step is to sketch a straight vertical line along the Side Datum **

SKETCH Pull Down: #Line or select , [sketch vertical line], [Middle Mouse Button],
[double click vertical dimension], <0.375 >.

** Your sketch should look something like the following image. The next step is to sketch a horizontal line
that is the same length as the vertical line. As you sketch the horizontal line, drag the line out until you
see the “L1” constraint in red. You will also see a “H” constraint in red. **

** We will now sketch a line at an angle to the horizontal line. We want this to be the same length as
the other 2 lines. As you sketch the line, when you see the “L1” constraint for the new line in red, press
the shift key and click the right mouse button. This will “lock” the equal length constraint. Now as you
move the cursor around, the only thing you can change with the sketched line is the angle. **

** Sketch the line at about a 45-degree angle. Your sketch should look similar to the following image. **

SKETCH menu: #Line or select , [sketch angled line], (make sure to lock in equal length
constraint), [Middle Mouse Button]

** A tangent arc will now be sketched. See the following image for approximate location. Once again,
watch the constraints change until you have an arc that is tangent to the last line sketched. **
