Accounts and passwords

In order to be able to make the most of the services provided by the IT

Department you need to have a user account. There are various types of user
accounts available.

Your user account may be the standard user account granted for normal use,
that is a Netware user name. But there are also ad user name, unix user name
and a restricted user name which is almost only meant for recognizing the user
when logging in.

How to apply
In order to get a user account you have to apply for it. The application form is
available on one of our web pages where you will find further instructions.

Applications forms are also available at the User Account Offices at the
Aleksandria, Kumpula, Viikki, Meilahti campuses.

Secret Information
For all the user name you need a password. When your user account is
granted, you also get a temporary password. The very first time you log in on
your user account you have to immedeately change the temporary password to
a new that only you know. The password is secret and personal and you must
not give it to anyone, not even to the maintainance personnel at the IT
Department.

Expiration
The user account is usually valid for an academic year at a time. Students who
are matriculated as attending the university can renew their user account by
filling in a specific form. The password also expires and it has to be changed at
least once a year.

help by turning to the advisers, the user account office or by emailing the the
