IOWA CITY WEST HIGH SCHOOL TO PRESENT 9 ANNUAL JAZZ CAFE '.
Featuring Jazz Trumpet Artist Terell Stafford

The Ninth annual Jazz Cafe will be held on Saturday, December 11", 2010 in the West
High Cafeteria. The concert will feature performances by all four of the West High Jazz
Bands

The Jazz Cafe will be an exciting and high quality educational event set in a jazz club
atmosphere. Table seating will allow the audience to enjoy coffee and deserts in a
beautiful and relaxed setting .

This year our guest artist is the fabulous jazz trumpet artist Terell Stafford. Terell has
been hailed as "one of the great p layers of our time, a fabulous trumpet player" by piano
legend McCoy Tyner. Known for being a gifted and versatile player with a voice all his
own, Stafford combines lyricism and a deep love of melody with a spirited, adventurous
edge. This uniquely expressive, well-defined mu sical talent allows Stafford the ability to
dance in and around the rich trumpet tradition of IUs predecessors while makin g his
own inroads. Since the mid-1990's Stafford has performed with group s such as Benny
Golson's Sextet, McCoy Tyner's Sextet, the Kenny Barron Sextet, the Jimmy Heath Big
Band, and the Jon Faddis Orchestra . Currently he is a member of the GRAMMY award
winning Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (GRAMMY 2009, Best Large Ensemble, Live at the
Village Vangunrd), as well as a member of the Clayton Brothers Quintet and the Frank
Wess Quint et. Between 2006 and 2007 Stafford played an integral part on several albums
including Diana Krall's Grammy nominated From this Moment On (2006) for which
Stafford joined with the Hamilton-Clayton Jazz Orchestra.

The concert w ill begin at 7:00 P.M. in the West Hi gh Cafeteria. Tickets prices are
$8 for adults an d $5 for stu d ents and seniors. Children under 5 are free.
West High School is located at 2901 Melrose Ave., Iowa City.
