    Ernest Rutherford was a famous physicist born in 1871 in New Zealand. He made many important discoveries about radioactivity and the structure of the atom. He proved the existence of alpha and beta particles, discovered that radioactive elements transform into other elements, and established his Rutherford model of the atom with a small, dense nucleus at the center surrounded by electrons. For his work, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908 and was later knighted as Sir Ernest Rutherford. He served as the head of the Cavendish Laboratory from 1919 until his death in 1937.
