o the present day, Engineered by Remy has evolved from solely making sport hood-
ies to leather jackets, jeans, men’s and women’s dress shirts, along with accessories.
Engineered by Remy's future lines will include sport blazers, handbags, and his in-

boutiques but you will find them draped on celebrities, from John Legend to J Holiday
and legendary rap artist MC Lyte who performs in his custom leather designs. The list
of celebrities sporting Remys’ designs are extensive and the buzz about this young
Cambodian designer changing fashion within the Hollywood community is spread-

While Remys’ designs are breath taking, nothing can leave you more speechless than
the story of the struggles the Hournhornnheanhou clan endured in their homeland
before immigration to the United States. Rathana Hournhornnheanhou (Remy Hou)
was born on May 7, 1981 into the aftermath of a gruesome war that killed 20 million
Cambodians between 1975-1979. His family deeply affected by the loss of numerous
relatives, immediate family, and the family’s eldest daughter. Being held captive in
refugee camps and with their lives at stake they eventually escaped captivity and fled
to a small village in Cambodia called Side Two. Living conditions were still desperate
in this village in the deep jungle highlands where he and his family fought fever, sick-
ness, thunderstorms, landmines, and the regime looking for his family. Remy recalls
“There is a scar on the left side of my face which reminds me of the event when my
family and I escape captivity in pitch dark. We ran through the jungle and a thorn bush
ripped my face open like a knife cutting halfway through an apple. I was 2 or 3 but I
didn’t cry.”
The tragic events in Cambodia led Remy and his family to migrate to the United States,
Long Beach, CA in 1990 where he became literate in English and developed a passion
for technology and clothing design. He then earned a Bachelors of Science in Telecom-
munications Management in 2002 and a Masters in Business Administration in 2004.
Although he had never formally studied fashion in an academic setting, he discovered
his calling in 2006 while working as a VIP Technical Supporter for Helio (now Virgin
Mobile) in Westwood. There, he designed custom Helio sweaters on the side while

Cosmopolitan in the Metropolitan:
Freddy Buraye’s Dream Come True By: Sarah B. Menchel
I n Los Angeles, it’s all about who you know, where you live, what you’re wearing, and what you’re driving.
Or better yet, who is driving you. Are you rubbing elbows with A-List or C-List celebrities? Are you dressed in
Armani or Armani Exchange? Are you driving up to the club in your own Prius or with your own car and driver from
Cosmopolitan Limousine?
Cosmopolitan Limousine, a top name in transportation here in Los Angeles is headed by President and CEO, Freddy
Buraye, with whom I had the privilege of speaking with about his company and how he got his start, becoming the
guy to call when you need a lift in style.
Raised in the San Fernando Valley and becoming a jet setter at a young age, Freddy spent a lot of time in Las Vegas
with family and friends, falling in love with the rich and glamorous lifestyle affiliated with Sin City. He said he has
always had a passion for exotic vehicles, which only helped to lead him to a rewarding career.
Buraye established Cosmopolitan Limo in August of 2000 with one vehicle and has since expanded to 16 vehicles,
but owes his success largely in part to the one and only Mr. Playboy himself, Hugh Hefner. Hefner helped to propel
his career to astronomical heights by utilizing his services, putting his name on the map. Freddy started by driving
Mr. Hefner and his armada of Playmates around Hollywood, and is now making appearances on E! Network’s hit
reality TV show, The Girls Next Door as the Mansion's limo driver.
Driving the Father of Playboy and his Playmates around has also helped Buraye to expand his business to include
private security services. Buraye has proven his abilities to handle high profile clients in a discreet and professional
manner, and has since gained the business of other big clients, such as Vivid Entertainment and Sony.
Freddy’s impressive fleet of vehicles has come to include Lincolns, Rolls Royce and Bentleys, as well as limousines,
and he expands his arsenal when he has a large scale occasion such as a sporting event where as many as 100
limos are needed. In our struggling economy, Freddy, like many others, has had to downsize slightly, selling off
some of his cars. However, he remains optimistic, “I can always buy more cars,” he says. The key to staying afloat
right now is being able to adapt in a rapidly changing world.
As for the future, Freddy wants to expand nationally, as he has already offered his transportation services in New
York and Miami; he wishes to establish a more permanent presence there once the economy straightens itself out.
Buraye’s mission for Cosmopolitan Limo is simple – to take care of business.
Cosmopolitan Limousine offers top of the line services to an elite group of clients. Buraye has been immensely
successful thus far and will continue to do so well into the future. Cosmopolitan – the limousine leader for Los
Angeles Metropolitan. For more information, please visit www.cosmolimosla.com.
