Outlook Survey
Q1 2011 Results for Canada

Key Findings
With seasonal variations taken into account, the Outlook of 14 per cent is on par with the Outlook reported in the
previous quarter.

With seasonal variation removed from the data, employers in all 10 industry sectors forecast positive hiring
activity in the upcoming quarter. Of the 10 surveyed industry sectors, employers in the Wholesale & Retail Trade
and the Transportation & Public Utilities report the most favourable results for the first quarter of 2011 with
projected Net Employment Outlooks of 17 and 16 per cent respectively, once seasonal variations are removed
from the survey data. This is followed by the Finance, Insurance and Real Estate industry sector, where
employers expect a positive hiring climate with a seasonally adjusted Net Employment Outlook of 14 per cent.

Employers in Western and Atlantic Canada report the most favourable hiring climates projecting seasonally
adjusted Net Employment Outlooks of 16 per cent and 13 per cent respectively. In Ontario, employers expect a
steady hiring climate with an outlook of 12 per cent, once seasonal variations are removed from the survey data,
while employers in Quebec anticipate a mild hiring climate reporting a seasonally adjusted Net Employment
Outlook of seven per cent.
