Abstract

Being at the crossroads of humanities and exact sciences, Architecture is positioned

to lead in the redefinition of research as action. Research provides information and

insights that enhances the performance of our intuitive process. Architecture should

provide a new model for research practice in all disciplines that carries academic and

social mandates, that is intellectually coherent, extensive and integrative, that

acknowledges that often it is the questions one asks that matter as much as, and

sometimes more than, the answer one gets.

The thesis project takes advantage of this advancement in the field of Architecture.

Developing a facility that would provide a venue for the collaborative nature of

Architectural Research, the candidate focused his research on architectural theory

and spatial analyses. Kinetic and responsive architecture realize these researches

and materialize the theories into a pragmatic structure. The spaces inside the facility,

like the Spatial Simulation Laboratory and the Virtual Reality Rooms, among others,

are manifestations of the necessities of the co-operative and fast-developing field of

Architectural Research: flexible, receptive, and open to limitless possibilities.

Through this facility the profession now can set goals and objectives for the

innovation and development in Architecture.
