Aurora council ballot lineup set

Three people running for Aurora City Council whose candidacies were being challenged
in Kane County Court will remain on the April 5 ballot.
Challenges against Sixth Ward candidate Isaac Count De Money Wilson and alderman-
at-large candidates Richard C. Irvin and Judd Lofchie all were voluntarily dropped
Wednesday, according to the challengers.
With the three candidates remaining eligible, the alderman-at-large race includes the
incumbent, Irvin, challengers Lofchie and Kevin Mathews, and write-in challenger Matt
Harrington.
The race for Sixth Ward alderman pits Wilson against incumbent Mike Saville.
Aldermen in the First, Third, Fifth and Eighth wards also are up for election.
First Ward Alderman Abby Schuler faces write-in candidate Don Duve, while Third
Ward Alderman Stephanie Kifowit and Eighth Ward Alderman Rick Mervine are running
unopposed. Fifth Ward Alderman John S. “Whitey” Peters is running against challenger
Dean Myles.
A new Ninth Ward alderman also will be chosen soon, although not by election. Mayor
Tom Weisner is considering five applications received for the position vacated Dec. 31
by former Alderman Leroy Keith. Edward Bugg, Matt Harrington, Allan Lewandowski,
Daryle Moore and Michael Ochs all applied for the post.
Whomever Weisner suggests must receive city council approval before taking office, and
will serve until April 2013.
