SANTA FE – Cabinet Secretary Designate Michael S. Duvall has directed the Department of Homeland
Security and Emergency Management to be prepared to assist state and local partners for the winter storm and
extreme cold that is slated to hit New Mexico this evening. The Department is ready and standing by should the
storm cause blizzard conditions or create hazardous and emergency situations.

The Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is prepared to deal with the potential
winter weather that is expected to hit the state tonight and have contacted local emergency managers and other
partners, including the National Weather Service, the Department of Transportation, the National Guard and
State Police regarding this forecast. The Emergency Operations Center is staffed around the clock and is ready
for the impending weather.

The State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management facilitates and coordinates requests
from local governments in disasters and emergencies. They are responsible for coordinating equipment
requests, shelter and food needs and emergency services to special needs populations, and rural areas including
