Latanzi response to Ervin

1. Historically, DCHD has verified the voter
registration affiliation of all members to
insure that the people participating in the
club were Democrats, or prior to the Bylaws
change in March, interested Independents.
While there is some truth to the fact that
DCHD just faced a difficult 6 months, in which
the President resigned for personal reasons
and the Secretary for health reasons, it has
never been DCHD policy to allow non-Democrats
to vote in DCHD elections, or to try to use
LAVOTE.Net to verify voters.
2. There were several communications between
the Executive Board of DCHD and the Nominating
Committee prior to the election, and each time
the use of Provisional Ballots for anyone who
was a new member or whose party affiliation
could not be ascertained was discussed as
evidenced by both the Executive Board minutes
and the Nominating Committee minutes already
submitted to LACDP. The reason for the use of
provisional ballots was clear, to insure that
only registered Democrats participated in the
DCHD Election.
3. There is nothing in the DCHD Bylaws that
states that ballots must be signed.
4. The Membership committee was swamped by a
van load of Non-Democrats that all entered the
building at once. The 3rd person on the

membership form was an oversight, but it does
not change the fact that the person in
question did not qualify as a member in good
standing. It is clearly printed on the
membership form that only 2 people per
household may join and qualify for a Household
Membership.
5. Mr. Ervin never paid dues as evidenced by
the Endorsement committee minutes from
February 2010.
The Committee's inside DCHD are that,
Committee's. They are not Executive Board
positions. During the time Mr. Ervin served
with that committee he never even bothered to
attend a Board meeting to get direction for
the committee, rendering it inactive for the
first time in 3 years.
DCHD's long time Secretary, Patricia Correia
was stricken ill last summer suddenly, and
hospitalized for several months. DCHD as a
club had no access to her records, which would
include all minutes. It was not until DCHD had
a copy of the Endorsement committee meeting
that the discrepancy in both Mr. Ervin's
statement to the Endorsement committee
regarding his voter registration status at the
committee meeting and his lack of actual dues
paid was discovered.
6. Mr. Burdett's status was verified by the
Registrar Recorder.
