Bangladesh is the land of rivers.

Many numbers of rivers are crisscrossed over the land are


of this country. A various types of bridges are observed specially, the beam bridges,
cantilever bridges are mostly visible. Other types of bridges are like cable stayed, double
decked, suspension type of bridges are also noticeable. Some of the important bridges
descriptions and its picture are as follows:

Jamuna Bridge:
Jamuna Multipurpose bridge is opened in 1998. At that time it was the 92nd longest bridge
in the world. 5th longest bridge in south asia.

The bridge is located on the Asian Highway and the Trans-Asian Railway which, when fully
developed, will provide uninterrupted international road and railway links from South-east
Asia through central.

Pier head contains the bearings and seismic devices which allow movement of the deck

Superstructure is a multi-span precast prestresses concrete segmental structure


constructed by balanced cantilever. The deck is internally prestressed and of single box
section.
Padma Bridge:

The Padma Bridge is a multipurpose road-rail bridge across the Padma River to be
constructed in Bangladesh. When completed it will be the largest bridge in Bangladesh and
the first fixed river crossing for road traffic.

It is built of post tensioned


concrete box girders. The piers
are supported on reinforced concrete pile caps, which transfer bridge loads to six bored
