He was kicked out of the surrealist "party" in Spain for dabbling in Dada and cubism. He was so obsessed with money, he signed blank pieces of paper and sold them to artists to draw on and pass off as his art.

Born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain on May 11, 1904
When he was young his parents told him he was the
reincarnation of his older brother who died 9 months before his birth. This was something Dali believed.

Joshua Wise Wednesday, February 16, 2011 9:09:25 AM ET He often describes his surrealistic work as hand- painted dream photos.
He was actually kicked out of the surrealist “party”
in Spain for dabbling in Dada and cubism, and was quoted as saying “Surrealism is me”
He was also expelled from a school of fine arts in
Madrid for telling his professors they weren’t competent enough to judge his work.

Joshua Wise Wednesday, February 16, 2011 9:09:25 AM ET In 1922 he met Helena Diakonova. A Russian immigrant who was already married when they met and was more than ten years older than him.
She was by far his greatest influence because she
personified many of his dreams and fears.
Sigmund Freud and Hitler were also great
inspirations to Dali.

Joshua Wise Wednesday, February 16, 2011 9:09:25 AM ET I choose Dali for the symbolism and emotion that he painted into his works.
And he was one of, if not the most, eccentric and
crazy artists in history.
He died in his hometown of Figueres, Catalonia,
Spain on January 23, 1989.
