Course Title: Investment and Equity Research
Course Leader: Deepak Ku. Gokhru
Aims: To provide a good understanding of the field of investment and to develop reasonable
good analytical skills in investing. The course will recognize where investment problems and
controversies arise and how to deal with them.

Teaching Strategy A mix of lectures, case analysis, group discussion and student presentation
will be used .The reading are intended to provide basic conceptual inputs or raise issues for
discussion in class.

Class Hours: 40 hours Credits: 3

Learning Outcomes: On completion of the course the student should:


1. Have better understanding of the current practices of investment scenario of country.
2. Develop better knowledge about good investment decision making.

Mode of Assessment:
5% for class attendance. Minimum attendance 75% (75-79=1, 80-84=2, 85-89=3, 90-95=4, 96-
100=5)
25% Coursework (Report and presentations)
70% Closed book examination of 3 hours at the end of the term.

5-9 Investment analysis, risk & return relationship, CAPM, APT,
application of beta to estimate the return
10-14 Fundamental analysis, Technical analysis

15-29 Portfolio theories & Analysis


Efficient market hypothesis, Random walk theory, testing market
efficiency, optimal portfolio construction, portfolio revision,
Markowitz portfolio optimization, Sharpe portfolio optimization,
portfolio performance evaluation,
30-35 Fixed income instruments and managing their portfolio
36-40 Derivatives
