3-2. Circuit Description
DM-140 Board
The DM-140 board demodulates Y, R-Y, B-Y, CAM SYNC, and SKIN GATE signals.
The multiplexed signal is separated into power voltage and the RF signal on the IO-214 board. The RF
signal is transferred to the MPX filter on the DM-140 board where the Y RF signal and the CHROMA RF
signal are extracted. These signals are then demodulated to be used as each signal.
This board consists of cable length detector circuit, cable compensation circuit, and their demodulator
circuit.
The cable length is detected from the amplitude of Y modulation wave. Then compensation of amplitude
and phase in accordance with respective Y and color difference modulation waves is carried out in the
cable compensation circuit. These signals are then demodulated in the demodulator circuit.
Y Demodulator Circuit
The Y signal is demodulated by the demodulator using a carrier whose phase is the same as the Y modu-
lation wave. The demodulated Y signal passes through the amplifier and the buffer, and is then trans-
ferred to the low pass filter (LPF) where the signal is clamped and output after its unnecessary 22.5 MHz
carrier component is eliminated. The CAM SYNC and SKIN GATE signals are also demodulated in the
same way by a carrier whose phase is different (by 90 degrees) from the Y signal.

The TR-133B board demodulates the RF signals of MIC1, MIC2, INCOM1, INCOM2, CAM DATA, and
TONE transmitted from the camera, and modulates the PGM1, PGM2, INCOM1, INCOM2, CCU
DATA, and H CONT signals to transmit them to the camera. In addition, this board also modulates
RETURN VIDEO and PROMPT VIDEO (and AUX VIDEO as well by selection).
3-4 CCU-590/P/V1(E)
IV-57B Board
The IV-57B board receives the Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals demodulated on the DM-140 board, converts
them to digital signals using the 27 MHz clock, and then outputs the digital signals to the EN-156B board.
The SKIN GATE signal from the DM-140 board is also converted to digital signal, is delayed in the PLD,
and is then output to the EN-156B board.
Furthermore, this board compares the CHU-SYNC signal from the DM-140 board with the H phase of
TG in the PLD, and then outputs it as H-CONT signal to the TR-133B board.
H-CONT Signal
Q301, Q303, and IC301 on this board detect the H phase of the CHU-SYNC signal from the DM-140
board, and transfer it to IC303 where the H signal input from the H timing generator in the PLD IC304 is
compared with the H phase of the CHU-SYNC signal. The difference is output to the TR-133B board as
H-CONT signal.
CCU-590/P/V1(E) 3-5
EN-156B Board
This board generates VBS, PIX, and WFM signals by the D-ENC from the Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals that
are A/D converted using the 27 MHz clock, and converts the signals to analog signals, and then outputs
them. This board also generates, D/A converts, and then outputs the R/G/B signals. The SDI signal is also
output through the half-band filter and format encoder.
SDI Output
The Y, R-Y, and B-Y signals from IC106 are input into the half-band filter IC509 to be converted from
8:8:8 to 4:2:2 signals. Then the signals are input into IC502 where mixing of the character signals with
the SDI signal, mixing of the SKIN GATE signal are carried out. The signals are encoded to the SDI
signal format, and are then output. The signals are converted from parallel to serial signals by IC503 and
IC504, and are then output as SDI signals.
3-6 CCU-590/P/V1(E)
AT-155B Board
Provided with a microcomputer (SH2), the AT-155B board controls the boards and the power supply unit
in CCU-590, and performs system (including a camera) setting. It also performs command communica-
tion with a camera, with RCP, as well as with the panel RM-B750 connected to the front of the unit.
This board is equipped with connectors for software upgrade, data input/output, and for Memory Stick.
The signal generator circuit has functions to perform genlock synchronization with an external reference
signal and to control all video signal output phases.
Microcomputer
The 32 bit microcomputer IC107 controls CCU-590 through serial IIC1, 2, 3 data communication with
each board.
Its 25 MHz oscillation frequency is generated by the VCO X502.
The 16 bit flash memory IC114 and IC115 store the control program, but it can be selected which ROM
to store by S102. The control program is stored in IC114 when CCU-590 is shipped from the factory. The
1M bit SRAMs IC116 and IC119 are used as work memory. IC301 to IC305 handle input/output data
from/to on-board switches, variable resistors, AC power supply unit, etc., including open/short-circuit
alarm output of the Triax cable.
700 Protocol
The AT-155B board communicates with the camera (BVP-E30, etc.) and the external control panel (RCP-
750/751, etc.) through the 700 protocol interface, using IC310 for communication with the camera, and
IC308 with the RCP. The 27 MHz oscillation frequency is generated by X301. Another VCO different
from the genlock circuit is used to prevent command communication failure due to occupation of external
sync signal. However, this board communicates with the SW-1257 board on the front of CCU-590 using
the IIC3 interface.
CCU-590/P/V1(E) 3-7
SW-1189 Board
The SW-1189 board displays main power, camera power, cable open/short-circuit alarm signals sent from
the AT-155B board. This board also allows INCOM communication if an INCOM headset is connected
to the XLR-5P connector. S3 is used to switch the PROD/ENG/PRIV signals, and S4 to switch the MIC
ON/MIC OFF/PGM signals. In addition, S5 is used to choose a microphone type (carbon, ECM or
dynamic) for the headset to be used.
VDA-62B board
The VDA-62B board drives SDI, VBS, PIX, WFM, RGB signals to the BNC connector on the rear panel.
This board also relays data between RCP and the AT-155B board.
The WFM and PIX signals from the EN-156B board pass through the LPF and the amplifier, and are then
output to the connector CN4. The relay RY1 is always connected for signals to be output. The PIX signal
branches after FL2 and is sent to the PIX OUT connector of RCP. The Y/G, R-Y/R, and B-Y/B signals
from the EN-156B board are transferred to the BNC connector on the rear panel through this board.
The IC4 digital audio output is not supported.
This board is able to select which output terminal (SDI or VBS for 3 channels) to use for signal output
based on the setting of the DIP switch on the EN-156B board. The VBS signal passes through the LPF
FL201, and is then input into the drive circuit composed of IC201 to IC205. The SDI signal is also input
into the drive circuit comprising IC251, IC252, Q253, and Q254. However, only one circuit for selected
signal is activated by the SDI/VBS selection signal that is input into Q202, and the selected signal is
output to CN5 through the drive circuit. Same SDI/VBS selection circuits are provided for three channels.
DIF-148 Board
According to the analog RETURN VIDEO select CTL signal and SDI RETURN VIDEO select CTL
signal that are sent from the DIF-148 and IV-57B boards, the DIF-148 board selects the analog VIDEO
(VBS) signal and outputs it to the IV-57B board through the VIDEO amplifier IC381, or selects the SDI
VIDEO signal and outputs the serial data shaped by the cable equalizer IC281 to the IV-57B board.
For RETURN-3/4 input, either VBS input or SDI input can be selected by the menu setting of CCU-590.
IO-214 Board
This board is used to merge the RF signal (between camera and CCU-590) and the power voltage to the
camera. The RF signal is supplied from CN2, and 180 VDC is supplied form W1. The RF signal passes
through C1, and the 180 VDC passes through L4, L3, and L2, and these signals are merged and then sent
to the camera.
