What is Multiprogramming?

Multiprogramming:

Multiprogramming is a basic form of parallel processing in which many programs can be run on
a one processor at a same time. There is only processor in a computer that is why the execution
of different programs can’t be executed at a same time. However, the part of one program is
executed by the operating system and then the part of other program and so on. It happens very
quickly and it seems that all programs are running at a same time on a single processor.

Example of Multiprogramming:
Doing work in word, listening the music, downloading some software and scanning the computer
with the anti virus. These all programs are running at a same time on a one computer.

What is OS 360?

OS 360:
It was known as IBM system. It was announced in 1964.It was a batch processing operating
system which IBM developed for their new 360 mainframe computer. It was heavily influenced
by the earlier Initial Basic System and Input and output Control System packages. It was made
to direct access storage devices necessary for their operation IBM announced three different
levels of OS/360, generated from the same tapes and sharing most of their code.

Why spooling is required as a part of Operating System?

Spooling:
Spooling is very important in the operating system. The accessing data rates of devices are
different. It creates a buffer zone, which makes a path where the data can stop while the slower
device catches up.
