Green  Living  Expo  2011  to  Feature  Topiary  Horticulturist  Pearl  Fryar

Stadium  on  Thursday,  April  21  from  11:00  a.m.  to  4:00  
p.m.  If  you  missed  the  event  last  year,  KHUH¶V\RXU
opportunity  to  talk  to  local  environmental  experts  or  to  
pick  up  valuable  information  on  how  to  be  an  eco-­friendly  
consumer.  
 
Participates  will  also  enjoy  a  free  lunch,  door  prizes,  and  
entertainment,  as  well  as  participate  in  live  gardening  
demonstrations  such  as  a  demo  by  Pearl  Fryar,  a  topiary  horticulturist.  Topiary  is  a  
horticulture  practice  of  clipping  trees  and  shrubbery  LQWRYDULRXVVKDSHVRU³OLYLQJIRUPVRI
VFXOSWXUH´  
 
Fryar  began  sculpting  his  garden  in  the  1980s  and  soon  garnered  national  attention,  which  
included  a  2006  documentary  titled  A  Man  Named  Pearl.  Today,  visitors  come  from  around  
the  world  to  meet  Fryar  and  to  see  his  incredible  garden.    
 
In  addition,  the  Green  Living  Expo  provides  exhibitors  with  the  opportunity  to  showcase  their  
green-­living  programs,  products,  and  services.  Sponsorship  packages  are  available  from  $50  
to  $100.  Every  sponsor  will  receive  a  complimentary  booth  upon  request.    
 
³As  America  continues  to  develop  strategies  on  sustaining  its  natural  resources,  Extension  
and  community  partners  will  remain  at  the  forefront  of  educating  consumers  about  green  
OLYLQJDOWHUQDWLYHV´VD\V'U.DUQLWD*DUQHUXUEDQHQYLURQPHQWDOVSHFLDOLVWDQGco-­chair  of  
Green  Living  Expo  2011.  
 
This  event  is  free  and  the  public  is  encouraged  to  bring  paper  and  plastic  items  such  as  
magazines,  newspapers,  cardboard,  phonebooks,  loose-­leaf  papers,  soda  bottles,  and  milk  
jugs  to  recycle!
