(3) QR Code
The injection quantity adjustment point has increased dramatically by adopting the QR Code.
This has also led to equal flow characteristics from each injector and has acted to raise com-
bustion efficiency and lower emission.

(3) Control
a. DPF control
As the DPF captures and accumulates PM, it clogs causing a difference in pressure across the
DPF. This difference in pressure is detected by the differential pressure sensor. Combustion
and incineration of PM is then performed at a set differential pressure value.
Combustion and incineration of PM is accomplished by increasing the temperatures of the
exhaust gas and DPF via injection control (see below.)
Exhaust gas temperature is increased by retarding the pre-injection and main injection dura-
tions until it reaches the oxidation catalyst activation temperature. HC (Hydrocarbon) is then
added by the post-injection, causing the oxidation catalyst to produce heat. The temperature of
the DPF increases until it reaches the self-combusting temperature for the PM.
b. Injection control
The engine ECU determines injection interval by controlling times "A", "B" and "C". First, the
main injection interval (time "A") is determined. Then the pre-injection interval (time "B") is
determined based on value "A". Finally, the post-injection interval (time "C") is determined.
In the DPF system, control over the retardation of pre and main injection intervals is added to
the conventional control, as well as a post-injection controlled by time "C."
