I hereby heartily recommend Mr Arunava Datta for “Annual Darwin Scholarship Programme:
Monitoring and Communicating Biodiversity” organized by the field study council UK.
Arunava’s special concern right through was Bio-diversity. He is very knowledgeable on
biodiversity issues specially related to the tropical regions. He has been instrumental in the
student campaign to plant over 400 varieties of rare trees at the Bio-reserve in Digha, Patna.
He has special aptitude for plant taxonomy and has shown constant interest in identifying and
documenting the floral diversity of our region by using photography and preserving
herbarium specimens.
He has completed his masters in botany with good stand and has qualified for the position of
Junior Research Fellow. He will be doing his PhD on Himalayan Ecosystem.
Arunava Datta has been a very capable student leader among his school and college mates.
Known for his public speaking skills in English, Hindi and Bengali, Arunava has attended
many student conferences in the past.
Of late he had actively participated in the International Youth Biodiversity Conference at
Nagoya before CBD COP10.At present he is involved in the formation of Global Youth
Biodiversity Organization (GYBO) which will strengthen and support youth efforts to halt
biodiversity loss, by becoming the international platform for youth actively involved in
Biodiversity and in the CBD process.
He has further shared his ideas and experience by using blogs and social networks
He has been persuading his peer group to take up environment friendly stand in life and
succeeded in organizing many plantation programmes of rare and vanishing trees in States of
Bihar, Jharkhand and U.P.
I fell that this scholarship will enable him to strengthen his present ideas and vision and will
surely help our organization in achieving future our goals.
