FILIPINO NURSES CAUTIONED ON TOB OFFERS IN BELGIUM

The Pliilippine Embassy in Brussels, Belgiurn has cautioned Filipino nul.ses or-r
available jobs aclvertised by lecruiters in the Philippines, who take advantage of tl-re
reported acute sholtage of nulses in Belgium.

Tlie Philippine Ernbassy has reported that although there is a shortage of r-rui.ses
in Beigium, foreign lturses encounter difficulty j:r entering this counh.y clue to
resh'icfions imposed by the Eulopean Comrnission, specifically the European Directive
2005/36/EC passed in 7 September 2005.

Tlre European Dilective 2005/36/EC is the relevant law on equivalency rn'irich


consolidates the rules currently regulating the recognition of professional qualifications.
Baseci urr the Directive, licensed Filipino nulses still have to take several units of nursing
subjects in Belgiurn to elevate their credentials to be at par rvith the Belgian rrursing
curriculurn.

Filipino nul'ses are advised not to resign frorn their jobs in haste solely on the
basis of the "sugar coated plornises" of recluiters of non-existent jobs in Belgitrrn.
