TOP TIPS
2nd session : Gathering news

Fact and opinion

Journalists often start by collecting two types of information

1. A Fact
is a statement that is true and can be backed up with evidence
(it is often the answer to questions such as who, what, where, how and why?)

2. An opinion
is a statement based on a belief or view
(it is often the answer to questions such as how do you feel and what do you think?)

3. Remember the importance of balancing opinions when you gather facts (reliability)
