1. What sorority are you in? Alpha Phi International Fraternity
2. Why did you join your sororty? | chose to go through recruitment because | wanted to
get involved on campus.
3, What are some of the requirements for your sorority? We have to keep 2.75 GPA, we
have to complete 7 hours of community service and attend two other Greek houses"
philanthropy events, and we also have meetings every Monday.
4. Do you participate regularly? Ido.
'5. What kind of events are planned and executed (e.g. social and service events)? We
host a few social events that promote Greek unity, ike mixers. We also hold one
philanthropy event each semester. We held a taco feed and a casino night this year. We
also have a formal each semester.
6. Do other members participate regularly? The thing about a sorority is you can choose
how involved you want to be. Some giris only come to the required events, while others
do everything.
7. Are academics a big part of your sorority? We are a social sorority but academics are
stil important. Girls who do not have above a 3.0 have to do study hours. Girls who get
bbad grades are put on social probation and can even be kicked out if they have bad
grades for mutiple semesters.
8. Are you happy you joined a sorority? | am so glad | joined a sorority. I think itis the
‘most rewarding experience anyone could ever have. | love all my sisters so much,
8. Does your sororty throw a lot of parties? No. Alpha Phiis a dry house. The only
event we have with alcohol is our formals. At formals you have to be 21 to drink.
410. Or do you go to fraternity parties? | do go to fraternity partes a lot. I would say 1 go,
to a fraternity to drink at least once a week.
11. Is there drinking? Is there underage drinking? There is drinking and underage
drinking.
12. Does the drinking get to level of concern (e.g. binge drinking)? Yes. Every once in
‘awhile someone will pass out or throw up. Itreally doesn't happen that often.
13. Have there ever been any injuries because of binge drinking? Serious or not? None
cof my fiends have ever been seriously hurt while drinking. There have been minor
injuries though, like bruises or cuts.
14, Does Greek life encourage drinking? No. We have several gis in the house that do
‘not dtink and no one pressures them to drink while they are at a party. Alpha Phi does
‘not encourage underage drinking and its against national policy to drink while wearing
your letters. During any oficial event (ike meetings) we do not talk about partes. It also
against the rules to post pictures of yourself drinking online.
15. At your university do Greeks drink more than non-members? | don't believe that
Greeks drink more than non-Greeks. When I lived in the dorms there were just as many
Parties. Non-members also go to some of the Greek partes.
16. Have you ever been injured or been ill rom consuming too much alcohol? | have
thrown up twice from drinking too much. Both times though | was not with my sister.
417, Have you ever blacked out? The oniy time | have blacked out was while | was not
with a sister.18. Have you ever been in a compromising situation while drinking? | have never been
ina bad situation because of drinking. | have done some things that | definitely would
not have done if| had not been drinking. But | have always been able to laugh it off
because it has never been a big deal.
19. Do you think that drinking is a part of the culture of Greek life? | think drinking is @
part of college life. Being in a part of the Greek community gives you access to more
parties and better parties in my opinion.
20. Do you think that sororities and fraternities in general have a problem with binge
drinking? | do not believe that we have a problem. We drink and party just ike most
college kids. | feel much safer at a fraternity party than at some random house party. My
sisters are always looking out for me and I'm always looking out for them. My sorority
also has a program called Watchcare, which is a way that we watch out for our sisters
and try and prevent bad things from happening.
