ABSTRACT

Debris particles in the lubricant can cause damage on surface material. This
condition happens when the size of particles is bigger than the minimum film thickness.
In other side there is possibility the surface damage is cause by smaller particles.
However influence is not as great as bigger size. It continuous can cause fatigue damage.
This final project studies the influence of debris particles for decreasing mass of
deep groove ball bearing. The Elasto Hydrodynamic Lubrication method with elliptic
contact is used to calculate load variation on bearing, size variation of debris particles,
lubricant variation. This fmal project simulates a deep groove ball bearing at 0 to 700
Newton, the particles size used 0 to 7 J.UIl, and 10 type oflubricants.
Analysis and simulation in this fmal project are to predict failure damage in
operation of the deep groove ball bearing. The result is that increasing load may effect the
wear materials 26 % to 245 %. The debris particles which are bigger may cause the
increasing wear from 18 % to 175 %. However, the high viscosity of lubricant can effect
to decrease the wear percentage. When the debris size 1 and 2 !Jlll this high viscosity has
fluctuation wear value. Further more, when the lubricant viscosity is less than 58.9442
cSt, the wear tendency is decreasing but when lubricant viscosity is more than 58.9442
cSt, it is increasing.
