Gurur Brahma gurur Vishnu gurur devo Maheswarah

Gurur sakshat parambrahmah tasmi sri gurave namah

Like any other day, we begin our day after a night of good sleep invariably thinking
about the people who have made an impact in our lives. Pedestrians who must have
made walked on the footpath of our life.
Today is a special day. Why? It's Teacher's Day. It is the day we celebrate the people
who have transformed our lives for the better through the medium of education. The
people who significantly contributed in promising a life of education, erudition and
learning. It's our teacher. The custodian of learning who thought us the facts of learning
and existence.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man how to fish and you feed
him for a lifetime. That's exactly what a teacher has done for us and we celebrate this
joyous occasion in remembrance of the greatest teachers of India on his birthday - Dr. S.
Radhakrishnan.
Born on September 5, 1888, at Tiruttani, 40 miles to the north-east of Madras,
Radhakrishnan grew to become the most famous Indian teacher and philosopher of all
times. He was also the Vice-President of India from 1952-1962. He held the office of the
Chancellor, University of Delhi, before taking over as the President of India in May
1962.
When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the president of India, some of his students and
friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September,
his "birthday". In reply, Dr, Radhakrishnan said, "instead of celebrating my birthday
separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers' day".
The request showed Dr.Radhakrishnan's love for the teaching profession. From then
onwards, the day has been observed as Teachers' Day in India.
Teachers have an influencing role in the life of a student. A teacher moulds us and in
the process shapes our future. What we learn from our teachers remains with us
throughout our life giving us direction.
A wise man has said “A teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for
others”.
