The Williamstown Fire District will hold its annual election and annual meeting on
Tuesday, May 24, at the Fire Station on Water Street. Polls for the election of the Prudential
Committee, Clerk/Treasurer, and Moderator will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The annual
meeting to consider the District budget and other warrant articles will follow at 8 p.m. The Fire
District is an independent government body with its own governance, budget, and taxing
authority distinct from the Town of Williamstown. All Williamstown registered voters are
eligible to cast ballots and vote on the warrant.

The Farmers Market will open for the season this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the
Spring Street parking lot.

May 10 town election results: Selectmen (2): Jane Allen-544, David Rempell-519;
Planning Board (1): Elizabeth McGowan-254, Keith Davis-173, Van Ellet-166; Library Trustees
(2): David Dewey-501, Kathleen Schultze-471; Housing Authority-Five Years (1): Peter Mehlin-
522; Elementary School Committee (1): Skavlem-216, Johnson-201. One seat on the Housing
Authority remains to be filled until the next annual election by a joint election of the Housing
Authority members and the Board of Selectmen in accordance with G.L. c. 41 s. 11.

INSPECTION SERVICES

Food establishment permits have been approved for Hops and Vines on Water Street and
Sweets and Beans on Spring Street subject to successful pre-operative sanitation inspections by
the Health Inspector. The liquor license for Hops and Vines has been approved by the state
subject to receipt of the Fire Chief’s approval.

Inspection Services has been busy fielding complaints of projects performed without
permits and unlicensed contractors working in town.

The Building Permit Application for the Williams College Stetson – Sawyer Library
project was submitted last Tuesday.

AT&T requested a continuance to June on their application for a wireless tower near
MGRSD. Verizon has applied for special permits to upgrade their two existing facilities in
Williamstown to increase power and bandwidth for 4G capability.
The Zoning Board of Appeals continued its May 19 public hearing on the WYC petition
for a Special Permit to June 16.
