– Chapter 17: sec. 17.1-7.2

Marking Scheme:
• 5 best out of 6 assignments (3% each) (In total 15%)
• term marks: 3 term tests. Each weighs 15%. (In total 45%)
• final exam: 40%
Evaluation Guideline :
• All exams will be closed-book and written without any aids (eg. textbook, calculators, scrap
paper, cell phones, pagers, and portable computers, formula sheets, etc.).
• Any tests written in pencil or erasable pen may be ineligible for remarking. If a test is submitted
for re-marking, the entire test may be remarked, allowing the possibility that a student may
receive a lower mark on any or all questions.
• You must bring your UT Photo ID to the midterm and Final exam.

Missing Test or homework :

• Students who are unable to be present for the test due to illness, must contact the instructor
by email or in person prior to the time of the evaluation or within one week of the missed
test, submit to instructor a written request for special consideration explaining the reason for
missing the test and attaching appropriate documents, sucj as a medical note. Besides illness,
only very serious reasons, properly documented, can be considered as valid excuses for missing
an evaluation.
• The weight of the valid missing term test will be transfered to the final test.
• Failure to provide the appropriate documentation in time will lead to a grade of zero for the
missed evaluation.
• Late homeworks will not be accepted without a medical note (in the last case there will be at
most one week of extension). Missing homeworks will not be transferred to the final exam under
any circumstances.

Office Hours and Additional Help The instructors will hold regular office hours. In the days
leading up to the term tests, teaching assistants will hold Math Aid Centre hours. The schedule
and locations for these Math Aid Centre hours will be announced in class and posted on the course
webpage. There will also be some general Math Aid Centre hours on campus. Their locations and
times will be announced shortly.

Note : If you have any problem of an administrative nature, please try to resolve it with your
instructor. Please check the course webpage on a regular basis. Announcements, assignments and
solutions to term tests will be posted on the course webpage. To access the course webpage you have
to go to portal.utoronto.ca and enter your UTORId.

Changes : Any changes to, and clarifications of, the details in this course outline (such as room
numbers, topics covered, tentative dates, etc.) will be announced in class and the syllabus will be
updated.
