Hurricane Mitch

The deadly hurricane hit countries in the

Carribean betweeen the 22nd of October and the
5th of November 1998. It started up in the middle
of the Carribean Sea and then travelled North-
East, to pass over the Central American
Countries of Honduras, El Salvador and
Guatemala, before dying out over Mexico. It then
headed Northwrds to hit Florida, picking up
strength in Bay of Campeche.

The hurricane was caused when the surface water

of the Caribbean Sea rose to 27 degrees Celsius.
The air above the sea was very humid which
caused the air to rise and creating an area of very low pressure. The strong winds that were
experienced were caused by the air rushing towards the low pressure, taking the place of the
rising air. There were very strong convection currants which caused the heavy rain.

The final death toll was not confirmed.
