Volkswagen, the largest automobile

manufacturer of Europe did enter the Indian auto market late but the
group companies of the car maker had been already here much before it
popularized itself with its brand name. According to some reports,
Volkswagen prospered its sales to 42,000 vehicles which is 10 times of
its last year’s sales. It is now anticipating a growth of the Indian car
market by 12% to 16% this year and is hopeful of beating the market
growth this year.

According to the reports, Neeraj Garg, the Director, Member of Board of

the Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd has remarked
that the company is expecting a really higher growth than the market on
the basis of its manufacturing plant in Pune that has the capacity of
producing 110,000 units a year. However, Garg didn’t give any set target
numbers.

Reports also say that Garg gives the credit of last years successful sales to
the small cars ofVolkswagen, namely Polo and Vento. The variants of
these two models are available at the least price of Rs. 5.30 lakh.
According to the reports, Media asked Garg, whether Volkswagen is
rolling out any vehicle in the small car segment at sub Rs 5 lakh category
in competition with the cars like Maruti Alto and Ford Figo. He said that
he’d not be able to disclose any of the company’s strategy.
