PROBLEM STATEMENT

Inadequate monitoring and accountability of all students that ride on Klein Independent School Districts over crowded buses.

SCOPE STATEMENT

Deliverable:

Team SMARTPORT will provide a research and methodology of a computer-based information system that will provide a tracking transportation system for students. Our mission is to incorporate our scan identification transportation system in Klein Independent School District.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Statement of Work

In week number one Project Manager Charlie McCullough (procurement and integration) produced the scope statement disseminating duties and responsibilities to Paula Kelly (communication, risk and quality management) and Angie Casarez (time and cost management). Upon creation of the Work Breakdown Structure in week three by team members, Paula Kelly spoke with Klein ISD representatives in an effort to mitigate an approved bond proposal to construct the Smart-Port Card for accountability of students, while discussing desired deliverables from both Smart-Port and Klein. Charlie and Angie coordinated with Identicard for procurement and cost mitigation. In week number 8, through comparative estimation and research, SmartPort chose the Symbol Phazer P470 Wireless Handheld Laser Barcode Scanner and the Route Finder Pro 8 for integration with the scan cards. Charlie and Paula communicated with Vic Garcia, Identicard Systems, for final cost and implementations specifications. After SmartPorts class presentation, our intentions are to meet with Klein Board members for acquisition of our proposal.

FINAL ANALYSIS

Team Smart-Ports final analysis required us to follow the 100% rule of work defined by the project scope and capturing all deliverables in terms of work to be completed. After meeting with Klein Independent School Districts representatives, Smart-Port established a set of deliverables for the schools problem statement of student overcrowding on buses in addition to identifying stakeholders. With the need for an adequate accountability system, team members researched hardware and software options for the implementation of the computer based identification system. Through comparative estimates Smart-Port chose the Symbol Phazer P470 Wireless Handheld Laser Barcode Scanner ($209.99) for use in conjunction with the Identicard Systems. Communications with school officials for bond approval as well as Educational Grants remains an ongoing process as Smart-Port continued to collect data i.e. number of buses (144), handheld units needed (144), identification cards (40,000)and students (44,200) that utilize the transportation system for cost mitigation. After receiving a total amount for the cost of hand held units ($30, 2358.56) and identification cards ($35,134.96) team Smart-Port was able to prepare a complete cost analysis for presentation to Klein ISD representatives and board members.
