Jamie Philp Guitar Instructor MacEwan University, Centre for the Arts 10045 - 156 St NW Edmonton, AB T5P 2P7

To Whom it May Concern: It is with great enthusiasm that I write a letter of recommendation for Jessica Marsh. I am a member of the American Federation of Musicians. I have been an Instructor at Grant MacEwan University since 1983. Instructing both private guitar lessons and Ensembles for the Music Program. I am a freelance guitar player working in all styles of music. I have known Jessica for two years. We had weekly contact in the 2009-2010 academic year at Grant MacEwan University where she was a vocalist in the General Ensemble that I direct. Jessica has also been enrolled in private guitar instruction with me at MacEwan. Jessica is an intelligent, capable, dedicated, and personable woman. She is always quick on her feet, with sensible reactions in all the circumstances I've seen her in. I feel confident in saying that she is capable of handling any situation with thoughtfulness and maturity. Jessica is organized, efficient, extremely competent, and has an excellent rapport with people of all ages. Her communication skills, both written and verbal, are excellent. This was demonstrated to me in her preparation of music for the General Ensemble where she always came to rehearsal with lead sheets for the musicians. She also demonstrated leadership and teamwork in working with her class and band mates. Since graduating from the Music Program Jessica has emerged as an established musician with experience in performing, recording, songwriting, touring, and releasing CD's. While in the Music Program and during the past year in Arts and Cultural Management she has continued to support other students by stage managing recitals and the Songwriters concert. Jessica has built up her technical knowledge doing live sound reinforcement for coffee houses. She has organized numerous music events at the school through the Students' Association and is capable of coordinating events of a large-scale size. Jessica is a mature and hard-working person that can work independently and can handle taking on different tasks. She is always eager to help students anyway possible, and has the ability of connecting with new students through working at the Students' Association and by being able to relate to them as she went through the same things (auditions etc) while in the Music Program. Jessica has a passion for the arts and our great faculty and has just graduated from the Arts and Cultural Management program. She has very relevant knowledge of how to execute a position of this kind. In summary, I highly recommend Jessica Marsh for this position and any endeavor that she may seek to pursue. She would be a valuable asset to any arts organization. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Jamie Philp philpj@macewan.ca | 780 497 4431
