A useful role of freshwater bivalves (the Latin name of this species of the
bivalve mollusk is Unio tumidus ] in making water clean was
discovered in this paper; another discovery is on how chemicals
may undermine this useful role

pollutants (detergents and surfactants) decreased
the filtration rate by the mass freshwater
