    Nestled only 8 miles from the City of Rochester, Ontario Countys fertile soils produce vegetables, fruit, field crops and livestock. The scenic farmland and rolling hills are punctuated by the Finger Lakes of Seneca, Canandaigua, Honeoye, Canadice and Hemlock which grace the southern part of the County. The Ontario County economy is diverse. About 40% of Ontario County is covered by fertile agricultural lands. Ontario Countys 1,252 farms produce berries, fruits, vegetables, livestock and dairy, with an economic impact of more than $200 million.ii Small businesses flourish in Ontario County and often depend on tourism. Tourism grew 8% from 2005-2008iii and is expected to continue its upward trajectory in light of new and renovated attractions including the New York State Wine & Culinary Center and Constellations Brand-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC). Of the counties examined in this report, the least amount of acres under gas lease, as well as, the smallest percent of County gas leased is in Ontario County.
