Drilling deeper into the measurement, analysis and improvement process map in an oil refinery

ABSTRACT. The Cienfuegos Oil Refinery, owned by the binational Cuba-Venezuela Company CUVENPETROL S.A, from the very beginning of the refining operations in December 2007 has been developing a sustained work in the deployment and deepening of the process approach to management, which is providing increasingly significant results. This paper shows the second iteration of process mapping, as applied in depth to the measurement, analysis and improvement process, including new experiences with the introduction of improvement projects Six Sigma / DMAIC. It reinforces the use of the traditional techniques of process mapping (Flowcharts, Tisher Flow Diagrams, IDEF0 Diagrams, SIPOC Diagrams, and adds a new tool "Turtle Diagram" which summarizes in a simplified form the process that is investigated, facilitating analysis and improvement of it, and its control through a control dashboard, and audits. In the annex are attached examples of these applications. The Continuous Improvement Sub-process is deployed in all its dimensions, including improvement projects Lean 6 Sigma / DMAIC, of which this paper shows examples of some of the tools applied in a specific project "internal audit process."
