ABSTRAK

Penambahan Karotenoid Total Dari Bakteri Fotosintetik Anoksigenik Pada Pakan Untuk Perbaikan Penampilan Ikan Pelangi Merah (Glossolepis incisus) Jantan Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi karotenoid total dari bakteri fotosintetik anoksigenik (BFA) pada pakan buatan dalam meningkatkan penampilan ikan pelangi merah (Glossolepis incisus) sehingga menghasilkan penampilan warna terbaik. Pelaksanaan penelitian berlangsung dari bulan Desember 2010-Januari 2011 di Laboratorium Mikrobiota Puslit Limnologi, Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) Cibinong, Bogor. Analisis total karotenoid dilakukan di Balai Besar Penelitian dan Pengembangan Pascapanen Pertanian, Badan Penelitian dan Pengembangan Pertanian, Kementerian Pertanian, Bogor. Metoda penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan yang diberikan adalah penambahan karotenoid total dari bakteri fotosintetik anoksigenik pada pakan, sebanyak 100 mg/kg pakan (A), 120 mg/kg pakan (B), 140 mg/kg pakan (C) dan pakan tanpa karoten sebagai Kontrol (K). Ikan uji yang digunakan adalah ikan pelangi merah (Glossolepis incisus) jantan, berukuran 3-4 cm dan dipelihara selama 40 hari di dalam akuarium berukuran (38x24x27,5) cm3 dan volume air 15 liter dengan kepadatan ikan sebesar 10 ekor/akuarium. Pemberian pakan sebanyak 5% biomassa ikan per akuarium dengan frekuensi pemberian dua kali per hari. Parameter yang diamati adalah penampilan warna sirip punggung, sirip anal, sirip ekor dan bagian tubuh serta kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan ikan. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi karotenoid total yang ditambahkan pada pakan mempengaruhi penampilan warna ikan pelangi jantan. Konsentrasi sebanyak 120 mg/kg pakan, merupakan konsentrasi terbaik karena menghasilkan peningkatan warna pada semua bagian tubuh ikan. Penambahan karotenoid total (100-140 mg/kg pakan) tidak memberikan pengaruh terhadap kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan ikan pelangi jantan.

ABSTRACT

Addition of Total Carotenoid from Anoxygenic Photosynthetic Bacteria Upon Diet to Enhance Male Red Rainbow (Glossolepis incisus) Appearance. This research was conducted with the aim to determine the effect of the concentration of total carotenoids of anoxygenic photosynthetic bacteria (BFA) upon diet to enhance the appearance of male red rainbowfish (Glossolepis incisus) and also to produce the best color rendition. Implementation of the study was conducted from December 2010-January 2011 at the Laboratory of microbiota Research Center for Limnology, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Cibinong, Bogor. Analysis of total carotenoids was conducted at the Postharvest Research and Development of Agriculture (Research and Development, Ministry of Agriculture), Bogor. This research method using Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and three replications. The treatments given were the addition of total carotenoids of anoxygenic photosynthetic bacteria on diets, each treatments was (A) 100 mg/kg diet, (B) 120 mg/kg diet, (C) 140 mg/kg diet and diet without carotene as a control (K). Fish used were male red rainbowfish (Glossolepis incisus), measuring 3-4 cm and maintained for 40 days in an aquarium (38x24x27, 5) cm3 and 15 liters of water volume and density of fish was at 10 fish/aquarium. Feeding as much as 5% of the biomass of fish per aquarium with a feeding frequency of twice per day. The parameters observed were color observation of dorsal fin, anal fin, caudal fin and body parts as well as survival and growth of fish. The results showed that the concentration of total carotenoids that were added to the diet affected the color appearance of male rainbowfish. Concentration of 120 mg/kg diet was the best, because it enhanced color in all parts of the fish body. The addition of total carotenoids (100-140 mg/kg diet) has no effect on survival and growth of male rainbow fish.
