DIAGNOSIS Anticipatory grieving r/t loss of pregnancy, cause of abortion and future childbearing .

INFERENCE Feelings of shock or disbelief are normal. Couples who approached the pregnancy with joy and excitement now feel grief, sadness, and possibly anger. Because many women, even with planned pregnancies, feel some ambivalence initially, guilt is also a common emotion. These feelings may be even stronger for women who were negativeabout their pregnancies. The women may even believe that the miscarriage is a punishment for some wrongdoing.

PLANNING After 8hours of nursing intervention the mother and her partner will verbalize grieve and acknowledge that the grieving process lasts several months.

INTERVENTION Assess the reaction of patient and support person.

RATIONALE To determine the feelings of the client and of the significant other.

EVALUATION The woman and her partner begin verbalizing their grief and acknowledge that the grieving process lasts several months.

Provide information To lessen confusion of patient regarding current status, regarding the loss, to clarify as needed. and to avoid blame. Encourage the patient to discuss feelings about the loss of the baby and include effects on relationship with the father. Acknowledge the loss and allow grieving. To relieve emotions, sharing of feelings to father may encourage support from each other.

The grieving period following a miscarriage usually lasts 6 to 24 months. To offer psychological support for the mother. Providing privacy will encourage them to verbalize further their concerns. To inform important matters about future pregnancies so they will have informed choices and smarter decisions.

Listen sympathetically to their concerns. Providing time alone for the couple to discuss their feelings. Discuss the prognosis of the future pregnancies.
