Group Phoenix Case II: Reverse glass ceiling Issues: Anupam and Sampada are both equally good

at work The post was never before given to a female employee Safety issues with Sampada for working at night Less opportunities given to Anupam Answers: 1. This cannot be considered as a case of female discrimination. It is a special case where a female employee got better opportunities to prove herself. On the other hand, the male employee did not get enough recognition. As a result, female employee has better chance of promotion. The post was never given to female employee as the requirements of the post could be late night working hours. 2. View of Sampada: Being a woman, I could not work late night. But, my performance is no less than any male employee. Given the fact that I completed all my assigned projects very well, I deserve the promotion. This is supported by recognition of my work by higher authorities. Given enough security, I can handle this position too. View of Anupam,: I have taken maintenance work as Sampada was not unable to handle the work because of safety concerns. She got the opportunity to complete more projects and as a result she got recognised by higher authorities. But, I have put in a lot of hard work and did whatever task was given to me even when it required working late hours. I completed the projects given to me to my superior s satisfaction. As the job might require late working hours, I am more suitable candidate. Conclusion: Both are equally good for the position. Considering safety issues, Anupam should be given the job.
