He helped found La Solidaridad in Barcelona in 1889 with Jose Rizal and others to promote reforms in the Philippines. Ponce served as a representative for Bulacan and continued his medical studies in Madrid, Spain. He wrote several works discussing Filipinos and the need for reforms back home before his death in Hong Kong in 1918.
