is Excellency Mohamed Thani Murshid Al Rumaithi, Chairman of both the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, called upon investors and businessmen based in Indonesia to exert more efforts to establish the technical ties and to bring joint economic and investment action up to its peak. He affirmed that it can come true through dwelling on the enhancement of bilateral collaboration and coordination in the field of setting up joint ventures and utilizing the Indonesian experience in a number of areas.. H.E. Al Rumaithi held discussions with H.E. Gita Wirjawan, Chairman of Indonesia Investment Promotion Board, on ways to expand investment co-operation between UAE companies and Indonesian ones, particularly in such areas as those of industry, technology, technology transfer and industrial co-operation between the two sides. Besides making use of opportunities being provided by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, mainly in the fields of water and power production, construction, light industries and the development of residential and real estate complexes and new cities, as well as of co-operation in the realm of developing light industries.

Al Rumaithi stressed the importance of establishing joint industrial ventures between Abu Dhabi and Indonesia in particular and of calling upon Indonesian companies and businesses to avail themselves of various opportunities available in Abu Dhabi coupled with diverse advantages being provided for foreign companies willing to invest in the emirate. We aspire to seeing more and more Indonesian participation in the field of industrial and property projects whether being set up or in the pipeline in Abu Dhabi. Such projects would furnish Indonesian companies with an exceptional chance to increase their presence and boost their partnership with national counterparts, as well as to nurture their investments in Abu Dhabi and transfer Indonesian advanced technology and expertise, which suit the emirates future needs and requirements, he added. ISO launches ISO 50001 energy management standard

ISO 50001 will provide public and private sector organizations with management strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve energy performance. The standard will be available on the ISO Website www.iso.org on 15 June. In addition, ISO is launching the standard on 17 June at the Geneva International Conference Centre (CICG). Presentations on the following themes are planned: ISO 50001 within the context of ISO standards in general and how they can contribute to solving global problems A description of ISO 50001 and its benefits How the standard was developed, who was involved and how they overcame challenges What ISO 50001 can do for developing countries. ISO and the talent development business

SO has just published a catalogue, Developing talent, describing some 30 technical assistance and training programmes it offers to national standards bodies that are members of the organization. Both developed and developing country members of ISO need to keep up to speed with of the evolution of international standardization. This is not only valid for the staff of national standards bodies, but also for their experts (internal and external) and stakeholders who contribute to the development of standards, or who use and implement them. The 160+ ISO members have different needs and expectations due to various factors such as institutional and legal frameworks, the size of the organization and its place in the national economy, the resources at disposal, buy-in from stakeholders, level of involvement in ISO technical work, etc. Developing country members, who represent three-quarters of the ISO membership, constitute a special group with more specific support needs. ISO has therefore developed technical assistance and training packages tailored to the variety of needs of its members. Developing talent describes these various packages and to whom they are addressed. ISO Secretary-General Rob Steele comments: The technical assistance and training provided by ISO is absolutely critical for keeping the ISO system primed and operating to the maximum efficiency. We owe this not only to our members, but also to the international community who expects us to provide quick, credible and consensus-based solutions to an increasingly complex world. The Diagnostic Tool Of Choice For Sinusitis

Finland and ENTlab have been at the cutting edge of developing and using sinus ultrasound. Physicians and nurses can diagnose sinusitis very effectively with the help of ENTlabs Ultramax units and eliminate a large proportion of unnecessary antibiotic treatment.

Ultrasound is increasingly replacing radiography in the diagnosis of sinusitis and for good reason. clinical examination is also less than reliable in diagnosing acute maxillary sinusitis; studies indicate that only half of patients clinically diagnosed with maxillary sinusitis have actually been found to have fluid in their sinuses following an ultrasound examination. This means that the number of antibiotic prescriptions written for patients in primary care in this category could be reduced by half, in theory at least saving both money and helping reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics, which is seeing a growing number of antibioticresistant bacteria emerge. Ultrasound offers a fast, reliable, and radiationfree method for diagnosing sinusitis, and has been used successfully in Finland for around 20 years. More than 50% of diagnoses are based on ultrasound today, only one third on clinical examinations, and the remainder on X-ray examinations. Easy to use and accurate A specialist in developing, manufacturing, and marketing medical technology devices for diagnosing ear, nose, and throat diseases, ENTlab entered the ultrasound field early on. Its latest product, the Ultramax SinusUltra, is a handheld, cordless sinus ultrasound device designed to produce safe, reliable, and highly accurate results when used by primary care doctors and nurses. Featuring a bright organic lightemitting diode (Oled) display, the SinusUltra can detect fluid, air, and even a cyst in the sinus, and send the result to a PC wirelessly. doctors can then write up their
diagnoses and comments, including test data, save them, and print them out for the patient. The bright Oled display makes reading off the result easy, whatever the ambient light conditions. FlUID or AIR is displayed, depending on what is revealed by the ultrasonic beam. This beam is reflected from the posterior wall of the sinus when the sinus contains fluid (pus), and from the anterior wall when the sinus contains air. ETTlab also offers the Ultramax A3 as a fast, inexpensive, safe, and efficient ultrasound device for detecting sinusitis. Featuring an LED display, functional design, and compact size, this also delivers excellent accuracy. EU guidelines recommend avoiding the use of Xray examinations on a routine basis for diagnosing conditions such as sinusitis wherever possible, particularly in the case of children under five primarily to avoid exposing patients to unnecessary radiation. Studies have shown that ultrasound offers a sensitivity of 92% and a specificity of 95%, compared to radiography, in diagnosing sinusitis. With practice and training, primary care physicians can perform sinus ultrasound examinations as accurately as specialists. Launch of CIPE-ICC WCF governance principles
Chamber of Commerce, and the ICC World Chambers Federation (WCF) jointly launched new Governance Principles for Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce this week during the 7th World Chambers Congress in Mexico City.
These principles are designed to facilitate good governance, evaluation, and reform within business associations and chambers
he Center of International Private Enterprise (CIPE), an affiliate of the US
CIPE and WCF have been working closely over the past several months to develop a set of governance principles that would serve as a reference point for chambers and associations globally. With the input of more than 60 WCF chamber members from across the world, the principles are truly global in scope and application. Contributions were received, from economies as diverse as Uruguay, Australia, Lebanon, Turkey, Cyprus, Canada, South Africa, Sweden, Israel, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Ghana, India, Jordan, and the United Kingdom. From our work around the world we know that good governance is the foundation upon which successful chambers and associations are built, said John D. Sullivan, CIPE Executive Director. We are especially excited about our partnership with WCF on this initiative and are looking forward to future joint work to ensure that these principles inspire a broad movement towards better governance in chambers and associations globally. Launch of ICC-WIPO handbook for providing IP services

he International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have launched the publication, Making intellectual property work for business today during the 7th World Chambers Congress in Mexico City. Developed jointly by the two organizations, the handbook provides practical guidance to chambers of commerce and business associations looking to provide intellectual property (IP) services for businesses.
The ICC-WIPO handbook gives practical advice on how to set up different types of IP services
Although intellectual property has become an essential competitive tool for businesses in todays economy, many companies do not understand how to use IP in their business. Businesses membership organizations are uniquely positioned to help bridge this knowledge gap. Businesses nowadays have to rely on the effective use of one or more types of intellectual property to gain and maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace, said David Koris, Chair of the ICC Commission on Intellectual Property. Giorgio Starace Ambassador of Italy It is my pleasure to present the new country report on Italy for the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The UAE became a strategic partner for Italy and it now represents our largest Middle East and North Africa trade destination, with an exchange of around 4,5 billion dollars in 2010. In 2008 and 2009 the world economy has been tried out by the international crisis, so we are currently working hard with our Emirati friends in order to shape the 2010-2011 recovery of economic partnership. In November 2010, the so-called Missione di Sistema, Italian most relevant business and institutional delegation, consisting of two Ministers and more than 300 business people, visited the UAE for the first time. The Italian business sector also showed a strong interest in the main relevant initiatives launched in the UAE in the past months (i.e. Big Five, World Future Energy Summit, Idex etc.). Moreover, a deep political relationship developed through an increasing cooperation and diplomacy at its highest level. Now, we are glad to welcome our UAE friends to our Country! In Italy, June is going to be a month focused on UAE events, from the opening of the Biennale di Venezia UAE Pavilion, to the first Dubai-Rome Airbus380 flight on 6th of June, as celebration of the 50th Rome Airport anniversary. On 10th of June, the Joint Economic Committee meeting is going to be held in Verona at the presence of the UAE Minister of Economy, H.E. Sultan al Mansoori. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.H. Sheikh Abdallah, is also going to visit Italy and on the 11th the Dubai Royal Family attendance is expected to the Endurance competition on Garda Lake. With regard to import-export sector, jewellery and luxury are the main products that Italy trades with the UAE, along with general equipments, other special machineries, clothing, furniture, aircrafts, engines as well as generators and transformers. Oil-refining products along with plastic and metal products are among the main goods exported to Italy from the UAE. The Abu Dhabi market is growing and there are many projects we are interested to be involved in, especially in the defence, energy and naval sector. Moreover, in order to expand trade relations between the two Countries, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the SME sector is going to be signed during the next JEC meeting in Verona. The MoU would also promote training of young UAE students in Italy and vice versa. The Italian business community in the UAE is increasing and now outnumbers 4500 permanent residents. The tourism sector between the two countries is developing, more Italians are visiting the UAE, but there is still room for growth. We wish that a direct flight connection between Rome and Abu Dhabi will additionally boost this positive trend. At the moment we have mainly UAE business visitors, but Italy also represents a great destination for leisure tourism and we would like to see more UAE tourists enjoying our landscape, lifestyle and food! The fifteen regions with ordinary statute have exclusive legislative power with respect to any matters not expressly reserved to state law (such as education, health ecc..). Yet their financial autonomy is quite modest: they just keep 20% of all levied taxes. The text, which has been amended 13 times, was promulgated on 27th December 1947. The Constituent Assembly was elected by universal suffrage on 2nd June 1946, at the same time as a referendum on the abolition of the monarchy. The Constitution came into force on 1st January 1948, one century after the Statuto Albertino had been enacted. Head of state: the President of the Republic is elected for a seven-year term by an electoral college composed of the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies and regional representatives, but he has no executive powers. Elected in May 2006, the term of the current President, Giorgio Napolitano, runs until mid-May 2013. EXECUTIVE BRANCH National Government: Council of Ministers headed by a Prime Minister, appointed by the President on the basis of ability to form a government with parliamentary support. The 315 Senate members are elected by proportional vote (the winning coalition in each region receives 55% of seats) and they serve five-year terms; up to 5 senators for life are appointed by the President of the Republic. The 630 Chamber of Deputies members are elected by popular vote (the winning national coalition receives 54% of chamber seats) and they serve five-year terms; the last Senate and Chamber of Deputies elections have been held on 13-14 April 2008 (the next ones will be held in April 2013). During the last two years Italian economy has been tried out by international financial crisis. But, following a path similar to that of the other euroarea countries, it began to pull out of recession and returned to growth. After contracting by more than 6 per cent in the two years 2008 and 2009, GDP grew by 0.5 per cent in the first half of 2010 compared with the year-earlier period and is forecast to expand by about 1 per cent for the entire year. The speed of the recovery is in line with the euro-area average even though still far below the pace that it would be needed for economic activity rapidly regain the pre-crisis level. The budget deficit is expected to be reduced from 5.4% of GDP in 2009 to 2.7% in 2012 and 2.2% in 2013 thanks to strict measures adopted by the government. The inflation, after accelerating to an average of 2% in the final quarter of 2010 and JanuaryFebruary 2011, is expected to rise further in 2011, mainly owing to higher commodity prices. However, towards year-end, it will start to ease, reflecting a more favourable baseline and weaker aggregate demand. This trend should continue in 2012, so that from an annual average of 2.4% in 2011, inflation is forecast to ease to 2.2% next year and to an average of 2% in 2013-15. Fixed investment made a partial recovery in 2010 as a result of a moderate improvement in business confidence after the crisis and a pick-up in external demand. However, growth will be subdued, as companies will remain cautious about increasing investments. Domestic and foreign demand growth is expected to slow in 2011-12 and capacity utilization, at around 72% at the beginning of 2011, remained below pre-crisis rates of 75-80%. The growth prospective of many Italian SMEs is only under conditions of banks openness toward new capital investments, since they have the
structural potential and a state-of-the-art technological know-how to compete in the international market. AGRICULTURE Italy's agriculture is typical of the division between the agricultures of the northern and southern countries of the European Union. The northern part of Italy produces primarily grains, sugar beets, soybeans, meat, and dairy products, while the south specializes in fruits, vegetables, olive oil, wine, and durum wheat. Even though much of its mountainous terrain is unsuitable for farming, Italy has a large work force (1.4 million) employed in farming.(US Department) Most farms are small, with the average size being only seven hectares. Italy is the biggest European producer of rice, fruits and vegetables, and also the world's biggest producer and exporter of wine. The country is one of the major agricultural powers in the European Union. (FITA) INDUSTRY Italy's fabrics industry is made up mostly of small and medium family businesses. In this context, the country is suffering from a decline in global competitiveness even though the emerging enterprises displayed a capacity for scaling-up their productiveness through technological renewal and developing strategies for international expansion. So, they did reveal an ability to react, indicative of a possible way out for the Italian economy from a phase of slowdown in growth. Italian exports world market share is a clear sign of this economic upturn. The luxury goods manufacture (haute couture, cars, delicatessen foods) represents a significant part of the Italian industry, although many companies deal also with precision machinery, chemical and pharmaceutical products, electrical items, fashion and clothing.

This award is given to the beaches that offer cleanliness and safe bathing areas and through strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management and safety and other important services. The Blue Flag is a voluntary eco-label awarded to over 3450 beaches and marinas in 41 countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada and the Caribbean. www.blueflag.org Thermal waters in Italy In this field Italy has taken up and developed a practice which has been widespread through-out the peninsula since the time of the Romans, when thermal waters and baths were already a typical feature of town life. Interest in the Italian spas is not exclusively for health care reasons. Their proximity to great art cities makes the spa resorts excellent bases for cultural excursions. In addition the wonderful parks surrounding the most famous spas, and the infrastructure which has been created for leisure activities, make them ideal holiday resorts. It is in this link between creativity and practical application, between ideas and hands, that much of what is commonly referred to as the Italian genius loci resides: the unique ability to transmit to a manufactured product the power to evoke the place and culture that have generated it, the ability to infuse products in this case, designed goods with aesthetic and emotional value that goes far beyond their raw value.
