A role of subservience

A cosy scene in the kitchen, The father and brothers Having their fill, but Where are the women? There do they stand in a corner Waiting for the leftovers. One little girl sneaks To the food vessels As, the last she had had her food Was early in the morning, She could not contain herself: For, it was ten in the night. This poor mite receives not food But a slap and the oft repeated Control your hunger. The men wash their hands And the women sit to eat Whatever little that is left. The little girl thinks it unfair, But apologizes aloud. Nature moulds her into a young lady Who moves to her second home To take up her role With meek acceptance. Had she been given the right To voice out her thoughts, Had she completed her attempt To take an extra morsel, Would she have taken up this role - A role of subservience?
