CHAPTER I Introduction A. Background of the study Nowadays, adhesives are highly in demand in the market.

adhesives are used everywhere. At home, to bind some furniture of damaged decorations. At School, to bind some projects of the students. At office, to bind some papers. Almost all companies use adhesives to bind their products, material, tool and etc. B. Statement of the problem Can betel nut be a component of adhesive? C. Hypothesis betel nut can be a component of adhesives. D. Significance of the study The study was conducted to find out if betel nut is a good component of adhesives. If betel nut has the potential, there will be a great impact in our economy because we can produce a less expensive, more efficient and environmental friendly adhesive that is locally made here in the Philippines. E. Scope and limitation The production of adhesive from betel nut aims in making a more efficient and less expensive adhesive. The data obtain in the study were limited to its characteristics,

its effectiveness, and the materials in the study for simple use only and not for heavy duty and industrial use.

CHAPTER II Review of related literature Mixture is a combination of two or more substances that can be separated by physical means. Adhesive is defined as tending to adhere The increase in the demand for adhesives in several business sectors calls for higher production, which requires more sources of raw materials for adhesive components. Modern methods of adhesive formulation usually use harmful synthetic chemicals and animal proteins that contribute to damages in the environment. Thus, there is a need to look for more natural sources. This study tested the suitability of betel nut extract as a component of adhesive. Adhesives abound on the market. These adhesives may vary in nature depending upon their uses. Their nature is highly affected by the materials used in preparing them. (http://www.investigatoryprojectexample.com/science/betel-nut-extract-as-component-ofadhesives.html) Animal protein, casein, and resins are the common materials used in preparing animalbased adhesives. Animal proteins are usually from animal skins, bones, and other animal parts. Historically, it is the oldest material used for making adhesives. Casein is the protein from milk, and resins can be sourced out from plants or prepared synthetically (Austin, 1984)

An adhesive, or glue, is a mixture in a liquid or semi-liquid state that adheres or bonds items together. Adhesives may come from either natural or synthetic sources.

A. Sources and gathering of data

Internet Book Dictionary

B. Materials

Betel nut cornstarch 3 containers ( with capacity of 300ml) Stick

C. Procedure

1. cut the betel nut into pieces then squeeze it to extract the juice.
2. after extracting the juice, pour it into 3 different containers.

3. Then pour the cornstarch into the 3 containers. then mix 4. after that, cook the mixture until reach the desired consistency.

CHAPTER IV Data, results and discussions A. Data Ratio of betel Amount nut extract to mixture cornstarch 75:25 50:50 25:75 10ml 10ml 10ml of 30 minutes Time of dryness 1 hour 1:30 hours

B. Results The use of betel nut as main component of adhesive has showed promising results. The mixture is very cheap at all because the raw materials can be found at

home. It is proven to be effective in bonding materials. On the other hand, it is also proven to be not hazardous. C. Conclusion The researcher therefore concludes that the use of betel nut extract as a component of adhesive is really effective. it was a successful one.

Chapter V Recommendations:

After this study, it is highly recommended to further study the characteristics of betel nut to be used as main component of adhesives for todays applications. There are more effective ways and means of improving the quality of the products using todays technology.
