CONCEPT PAPER CLEAN AND GREEN ENVIRONMENT APOSTOLATE (CGEA) I.

PROJECT NAME: CGEA: Maryhurst Sanctuary Forest Protection II. Rationale: Today, one of the worlds biggest problems is global warming, many people are trying to help in solving the problem or at least trying not to make things worst. One of the most effective ways to help in solving this problem is to preserve our forest sanctuaries, Maryhurst Seminary compound was said to be a sanctuary but with the fire incident last 2007 a part of its forest sanctuary was burned. This apostolate involves restoring, preserving and promotion of the maintenance of the forest sanctuary of Maryhurst Seminary in Lucnab, Baguio City. This apostolate is on its 8th term of implementation. As a training exercise on missionary service, this apostolate attempts to provide an experience for the participating SLU NSTP students to practice the missionary service virtue of the SLU NSTP. These virtues include the following; 1) simplicity- focus on basic needs so that resources can be maximized and can be saved for other needs; 2) obedience Louisians solidarity with SLUs mission to transform; 3) chastity being available to render service, 4) preferential option for the needy prioritizing the real/.most needy people; 5) frontiership prioritizing the real concern at real circumstances; 6) volunteerism unconditional self-initiative; 7)self sacrifice and charity forgoing ones need for the benefit of dire need; 8) sense of community and law abiding emphasis of social rights, sensitivity, and discipline; 9) relevance being functional through ones capabilities, potentials, talents, learning, profession; and 10) love of the sacred upholding morals/goodness as an expression of divine affection. This apostolate also attempts to orient the students on transformative service. Here, participating students are expected to employ their capabilities, expertise, potentials and course related skills to ensure a significant output of the apostolate. Meanwhile, this exposure of the participating SLU NSTP students hope to further enrich their knowledge, skills and attitudes in the practice of their profession and the exercise of their Louisian identity. Global warming poses one of the most serious threats to the global environment ever faced in human history. If rampant deforestation is not controlled it will definitely results to several complex problems that is linked to global warming. Many scientific models predict an increase of 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next century for doubled amount of CO2. In order to maintain balance and achieve a sustainable environment for all life forms, it is necessary to reduce the average global temperature; a massive reforestation is probably the easiest thing that we can do to help in fighting global warming where this method reduces the average global temperature with minimal negative environmental and economical impacts.
