How do Specialization Outcome 1 and ELLC Standard 1 align?

ELCC standards serve as guidelines to determine the path that a school plans to take. Wilmore
(2002) outlined ELCC standards. Standard one begins with leaders assisting with the
development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship oI the vision. Leaders in schools
today are responsible Ior either creating a new vision or articulating an existing vision. All
leaders should serve as stewards and help to motivate staII to make continuous improvement.
Specialization Outcome 1 speciIies that analyzing theories and evaluating the role oI an
educational leader are categories Ior administrators to participate in activities that demonstrate
their competency toward Standard 1.
What reIerences support your new understanding oI this outcome?
Standards provide a Iramework Ior the ongoing responsibilities oI school leaders. Leaders
should reIer to the standards as guidelines to determine iI their school is progressing toward the
vision. This ongoing process should be included in daily practices. Initiating change is one oI
the obstacles that leaders oIten Iace when aligning practices with the standards. Robbins and
Alvy (2009) explained that school leaders are change agents and should consider situations Irom
an individual as well as an institutional perspective. Building a trusting environment could be an
obstacle to Iacilitate the change process. School leaders should be knowledgeable oI all
stakeholders and use a collaborative decision-making process. Leaders with high expectations
have a positive impact on student perIormance (Sorenson, Goldsmith, Mendez, & Maxwell,
2011). Leaders begin with participating in the process to develop a vision through collaboration
with stakeholders.
What areas within this outcome would you still like to learn, practice, or experience?
I would like to practice being a steward oI the vision and assisting with motivating staII members
during the internship process. I am also learning more about how to lead as a principal in a K-12
setting.
What artiIacts or evidence have you gathered to demonstrate accomplishment or competency oI
this specialization outcome?
Agendas Irom staII meetings, parent contact logs, journal notes, and supervisor comments are
artiIacts that demonstrate competency toward this outcome. I will continue to collect artiIacts
during my internship.
