FROM THE AUTHOR

Congratulations students! It is a moment of immense pleasure for all of us in presenting thoroughly revised and updated draft of MATHEMATICIA HOTS Series for class 10 for summative assessment II. It has been prepared as per the latest CBSE syllabus for the session 2011-2012 and NCERT textbook of Mathematics. In this draft, I have provided the chapter-wise Study and practice material to avail you the stuffs essential for boosting up your concepts and to have extra edge in todays extra competitive world. This booklet carries a large number of questions (I call them HOTS Questions) which have been prepared keeping in mind the needs of your summative assessment II preparations. I must inform you that there are certain questions which are not from examination point of view. I have incorporated these questions just to provide fuel to those minds that hold the desires, capabilities and potential to handle all the pressure and hence deserve to excel well in their respective lives! Of course these problems require high order thinking process and complete concept clarifications. For this reason, please make sure that you dont jump to these questions in learning phase, learn the concepts firstly in complete details, solve all NCERT book examples and questions; especially Optional exercises and then attempt the questions given in this booklet. Take my guidance (or anyone with sound concepts) if the need be and most importantly, do not lose hope if you are not able to solve the problems given here in one go. These questions are really Tough (though I am sure a few students having good grip on the concepts, may disagree) and therefore, they require more concentration and time. The sources of these questions are CBSE official website, CBSE Sample papers, and previous years CBSE question papers. Along with all these, my own dealing with Mathematics in past years has also resulted into development of a few questions. My main motive to provide you these questions is to compel you to think beyond expected methods and tricks (tukkas) in solving of the questions! Dear readers, you are just about to begin a great adventure (in case you have opened the book and are keen to follow it). The Mathematics you will start to learn herein is the key to many future jobs, jobs that do not even exist today. More important, even if you never use Mathematics in your future life, the thought processes you learn here will help you in everything you do. As much as I hate to admit it, I am not perfect. Though I have put in my best efforts to make this texture easier, compact and free of errors, still if you find anything that is unclear or should be added to the MATHEMATICIA HOTS Series, please inform me on my mobile +91 9650 350 480 or you can also write to me on theopgupta@gmail.com or www.theopgupta.blogspot.com. I shall be grateful to those readers who point out any error(s) and/or make other constructive suggestion(s). And please be patient, I will answer surely. I assume you are going to enjoy the MATHEMATICIA HOTS Series... Though my assumption may fail if you possess mis-concepts instead of concepts. So, I wish you all the good luck in this venture of yours. Good luck and God bless you!! Contact No.: 9650 350 480 Email: theopgupta@gmail.com Author

MY GRATITUDES
First and foremost, I would like to thank God that finally, I have succeeded in finishing this work for the benefit of the students of class tenth. Also for showing me the right path whenever I have been prone or tempted to take any unhealthy decisions and for offering me everything I needed and keeping me void of so many things which were not meant for me! Thanks for strengthening me up in following the path of Truth, though it has been really a tough one but inspirational! I am extremely thankful to all my students of class 10 (session 2010-2011) for all the efforts they made in doing the correction works and providing useful suggestions. A special thanks to PRIYA MISHRA for her extra efforts in preparing the answers, removal of misprints and doing other correction works. I wish to thank NEERAJ JHA for his efforts in the same aspect. I would like to offer special thanks to my beloved students for showing their belief in me. I appreciate their trust which they have shown in my abilities by choosing me. Thank you for spending time with me to discuss about the coursework, in removal of misprints in the textmaterials i.e. study materials and practice materials provided to you. I am thankful to my friends A.K.GUPTA and PRINCE KUMAR for providing me an insight in many situations! Thank you also for giving me extra information on various aspects of teaching and for forwarding me all the information about Mathematics work found anywhere on the wide spread internet! I wish to thank all my teachers in particular Dr.Rajeev Tyagi my Physics teacher in class XI - XII, Dr.R.D.Sharma famous Mathematics books author and my teacher of Applied Mathematics during my tenure as engineering student, Mr.Amit Goyal my Mathematics teacher in class XII, Mr.Subhash Goyal my Science teacher in secondary classes and Saroj mam a motherly figure for me during primary school days, Prachi Aggarwal mam my English teacher who is responsible for my uplift from zero to some level in this language The list goes on and on And last but not the least, I would wish to thank all those people who have been knowingly or unknowingly helpful for me. Whether they believed me or not, Im thankful for all their comments, their behaviour towards me or my methodology it all has helped in compelling me to improve my own qualities which eventually has been beneficial for me and my loving students! On a broad front, it has been beneficial for the Mathematics the science I love the most!

ABOUT OP GUPTA IN HIS OWN WORDS

Since July, 2006 I have been teaching Mathematics. No matter how I feel, I feel better when I teach. I am always delighted when students tell me they hated Mathematics before and could never learn it, but taking Mathematics with me has made it understandable and even a little enjoyable. This is something delightful I have been seeing with my students over the years. Every book, study material or practice material I have written tries to teach serious Mathematics in a way that allows the students to learn Mathematics without being afraid. I prefer writing the Mathematical concepts in my books in interactive format, and in a bit easy way or say funny way which makes learning them a bit enjoyable that too without stress. One minute old at this writing, my hobbies (besides Mathematics) till this moment are painting, photography, novel reading, writing poems, articles and listening to music. My practical dream is to start a Mathematics series from root level to the senior level so that everyone in our country will be able to think well and do deeds that shall help our country attain top position in all the respect globally. I have gone through one year training under the keen guidance of well known Mathematics books author DR.R.D.SHARMA. I pursued B.Sc. Maths (Hons.) from renowned Ramjas College, University of Delhi before dropping out in second year to pursue engineering in Electronics & Communications from Directorate of Technical Education, Delhi. I have been honoured with the prestigious INDIRA AWARD by the Govt. of Delhi. To me, teaching Mathematics is always a great joy. I hope I can give you some of this joy!
