I. Test Appraisals

1. Various test appraisals

1.1 Definition of test appraisal

a. Test appraisal - It’s a method of analysis resulting from attempts to provide
objective, dependable and universal yardstick for measurement of traits.

1.2 Purposes of test

a. Prediction - To obtain a measured ability, achievement and /or characteristics that
will offer a solid basis on which individual can make decisions.
b. Selection - Test is used by institutions and organizations to accept and to reject
others. The decisions to hire an individual or to admit a student are selection
decision.
c. Classification - It is an arrangement according to some systematic division into
groups. Classification involves deciding in which of the many treatments or
groups a person should be assigned to.
d. Evaluation - Test is used to asses and evaluates programs, methods, and
treatments.

1.3 Types of tests

It can be classified in many ways by purpose, content, form and procedure

a. Standardize vs. Non-standardize
b. Individual vs. Group
c. Speed vs. Power
d. Performance vs. Paper and pencil
e. Objective vs. Subjective
f. Maximum vs. Typical performance
g. Norm vs. Criterion-referenced

1.4 Kinds of test

a. Intelligence test – measures the I.Q level of an individual
b. Achievement test – measures how much a pupil learns in a certain subject
c. Aptitude test – measures the readiness with which the individual increases
his knowledge and improve skills when the necessary opportunity and
training.
d. Personality test – measures the tangible characteristics of the individual.
e. Interest inventories – reveals the likes and dislikes of the individuals
f. Diagnostic test – identifies the learning difficulties and weaknesses of
learners.
g. Emotional test – measures the E.Q level of an individual
